Death and Dying: Annoying new subsystem reduces fun.

Unless you're playing with my dice. . . in which case its about 90%.

    D&D 4E Weapon variety in 4E

Forget the lame spellcasters and their possibly limited set of options!! (just kidding. . 'not enough spell options' thread was at the top when I posted this. . . and the topics are similar. . .) Let's talk about weapon variety in 4E! One of the problems with 3.x, and really every edition...

Do the PCs ever die in these playtest reports?

Actually, I found running away to be a more prevalent tactic in previous editions of the game. Mostly it happened at higher levels where there was ready access to escape magics. When party members started dropping, the survivors would grab the bodies and run. I haven't seen too much of it...

    Death to the Skill Monkey...

With the relative increase in the value of skills and their refinement, I would speculate that each class becomes an "expert" with the skills tied to its particular role. The need for a single 'does everything' skill specialist is gone and would be inappropriate for the 4e model.

    Twenty plus one

I don't know what series you're referring to, but the definitive imprisoned mad god is Cthulhu. Everything else is just a pale imitation. ;)

D&D 4E Will there be a Knight class in 4e?

I like the idea of a "knight" class though. Hopefully they will make one. . . or didn't they say they had something that vaguely resembled PrCs? Maybe one of those for a knight class?

    D&D 4E I want 4E NOW!

Yeah, I can't wait either. I'm not really interested in my current campaign anymore because I'm chomping at the bit for the new rules. Everytime some lame 3.5ism comes up, we all talk about how "this will be better in 4E!"

    D&D 4E d20 Modern 4E - I want it!

I've been kinda itching to run a Rainbow 6 style game lately. . . I just don't know that D20 is the right system for a modern game. Too heroic. . . I think some grittier rules set would be more appropriate. . . Of course, I don't think I could get my players to play it anyway. . so it doesn't...

Have These Basic Questions been answered yet?

Given that Mearls is the lead designer on 4E. . . I wouldn't be at all surprised to see HPs rolled in the Iron Heroes fashion. . . d4 + remainder of HD + con d4 + 8 for d12 HD d4 + 6 for D10 HD etc. Its actually a really good system that allows for a little bit of randomness while preventing...

Core Races to Sport Muppet Voices

The more I read about 4E, the more concerned I get. . . Our group long ago house ruled Elves to sound like Miss Piggy. If 4E doesn't support that style of play, then its not the game for our group. We will sell all our D&D stuff and refuse to play the game at all if they don't change it...

    About Death and Resurrection

Yes, but the other half of the internet culture of people making ridiculous statements using dubious logic with a questionable factual basis. . . is for other people to call them out on it! :)

    The Vorpal blade

You know. . . I've been familiar with this poem as long as I can remember, but never really thought about it until now. . . Reading the PAM (Poem as written) the Vorpal Blade is CLEARLY a thrusting weapon ("through and through.") Our hero simply decapitates the already slain Jabberwock as...

    About Death and Resurrection

Show me the relevant text that says "we have rules prohibiting heroic tier characters from returning to life." or even one that says. . . "Heroic tier characters are incapable of being returned to life." All we have is a statement that when a heroic tier character dies, the owner rolls a new...

Realism, Heroism, and Abstract Hit Points

Its true, single wounds seldom incapactiate your opponent in real life. That's why all fighters and paladins should walk straight past the racks of +4 swords, and pick themselves up a UMP 45 for that Dungeon CQB. High spirits is no substitute for 600 rounds per minute!

WHy weren't FRCS dragons wiped out by the spellplague?

Well, the bodies of the dragons would still be around. . . so I'd propose the name "Catacombs and Corpses."

Andy Collin's comments re censoring playtester reviews

What does it matter if playtesters with negative opinions are allowed to share their views on the forum or not. I can't see how that helps anybody. . . 1. The problems if true are likely to be fixed. 2. There is an EXCELLENT chance that you won't agree with the playtester's opinions anyway...

    History repeats itself

Meh. . . The sky was falling for some folks when 3E came out. Most of them switched anyway. . . only to have to sky start falling again when 3.5 came out. . . to which most of them switched anyway . . . now its 4Es turn to be a "horrible mistake" that leads to "the splintering and death of...

    About Death and Resurrection

I can't believe you're trying to debate the interpretation of the RAW, when the RAW haven't even been published yet! We had no idea what the RULES are governing death. So the supposition that its a resource constraint issue versus a rule prohibition is equally valid. Unless you're going to...

    Suggestions to replace Half-Elves

They should be replaced by the Pan-Fo! (Gain a cool point if you caught the reference.)
