Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Yeah. Sometimes changing things works out really well. Some people might still complain about that French upstart being added to the Arthurian stories, but who doesn't love him some Lancelot? But then other people tried to make Arthur some sort of modern gangster raised in a London...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Trying to please everyone is a fool's errand as some people are always going to be unhappy. As someone who was resigned to WotC avoiding Dark Sun like the plague for the next decade or so, I'm pleased to see it's likely to be a reality soon. I hope it's not as disappointing as Spelljammer...

Tips and Tricks to Running a Con Game

When I used to run Living Greyhawk adventures I ran into problems. Some players simply viewed me as a rubber stamp for gold, magic items, and experience points. I finally lost my patience and combined with 3.5 it drove me away from Living Greyhawk. Several of them even offered to purchase the...

Tips and Tricks to Running a Con Game

As much as I don't care for the X-Card myself, I understand why people might recommend it for a con. I think maybe we don't want this thread to turn into a discussion about the X-Card when it's supposed to be about advice on how to prepare a game for a con.

Tips and Tricks to Running a Con Game

I had stupid behavior ruin a GURPS Fantasy con game I was playing in a few years ago. On two separate occasions some players, and not the same ones both times, went of on pointless tangents that obviously had nothing to do with the scenario. As a result, we didn't finish the scenario within...

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

Speak for yourself! I've seen things you wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

Having secondary characters worked for Ars Magica and I can see it working for other games. It might not be a bad idea for some games I run where one or more player insists on making a character that's next to useless in a firefight.

    IN REMEMBRANCE--2025

Stamp was in a lot of great movies. I especially liked The Limey from 1999 where he plays an English criminal who journeys to the United States to investigate the death of his daughter.

What are your thoughts on TTRPGs with non-standard dice?

I still have the double deck of cards they sold for the original version of Deadlands. It was the one piece of the old collection I couldn't bear to part with.

D&D General WotC: 'Of Course We're Going To Do' Baldur's Gate 4

I've been unable to run through the entire game a second time. I tried another Dark Urge playthrough, but I stalled in act 3 and just felt like I couldn't be bothered. I'll probably run through it again a few years from now when I've forgotten a lot of the game.

What are your thoughts on TTRPGs with non-standard dice?

There's two types of gimmicky dice I think. There's dice like those for Vampire 5th edition or FUDGE which are just d10s or d6s respectively with little symbols pertinent to their specific systems. You can use regular d10s and d6s for those games though without any problem. Then there are...

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

Ships in Star Fleet Battles were designed with the thought they were constructed to perform other functions outside of a single combat scenario. A Federation PF was designed for short range patrols and had both limited range and function when compared to a heavy cruiser. The problem with games...

    Kickstarter: GURPS Mission X

Too much dialogue during an active battle is something of a pet peeve of mine. Shouting "Get to the choppa!" is fine, but I dislike when PCs try to convey complex ideas in paragraph form while dodging fireballs and axes.

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

Another problem is one of skill allocation. In most games, if you're a crack pilot you're character is likely less capable in situations that down involve flying. And in most games you spend more time not piloting than you do piloting.
