What causes boredom in a game session?

I resemble that remark. If I'm the DM, I'm always scrambling around at the last minute. If I'm a player, I can't seem to get to game on time (unless we're playing at my house). I'm horrible. :(

What causes boredom in a game session?

Actually, I wanted to force people to choose one. It would be too easy to select all of them, because I know, I've had most of these be a problem at one point or another. :)

    Non Magical Weapon Properties

Hmmm...the sunder thing might be neat. What's the exact details? errr...what's a basket hilt and what's the purpose/advantage behind it?

What causes boredom in a game session?

Inspired by the bored on game day thread, I thought I'd run a poll about common pitfalls of gaming that cause the most boredom. In your experience, which of the options has been the worst offender? GMs wanna know. :)

    Close, but no cigar....

Quickleaf - love that system. Come to think of it, I think the "Dozen Rumors" line had something similar with extraordinary failure or success on Gather Information checks. The more I think about this, the more it makes sense and the more I like the idea. When characters start having a decent...

Which class would YOU step into?

I hadn't thought of it that way - I wish I could change my vote now. :(

    Close, but no cigar....

Generally, I treat skill checks as a true/false sort of thing - either you make it or you don't (there's some exceptions to this in RAW, of course). I was just wondering though, if anyone does something a little different when the character almost makes his check; example: character needs to...

If you're going to sit in your basement. . .

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loved that! I thought, "Damn, go WotC!" Someone in their marketing department should get a raise.

How do you use cliches in your game?

I love this one. It made me chuckle. I have to admit that I got bored of some of the cliches, but I felt that trying to go too hard against them would seem too obvious, too. So instead I combined some of the cliches together. For example, faeries are notorious for mating with pretty much...

Adventures--Do you run them or cannabalize them?

You know, I love the idea of being able to run something directly out of a book or Dungeon, but I've only been able to do so once or twice (changing place and NPC names doesn't count to me). I love the idea of just having to read something, doing a little tactical work and then being completely...

    Non Magical Weapon Properties

I keep waffling on whether or not to do this (adding "magical" enhancements to nonmagical weapons that is). On the one hand, it's not that there is anything inherently magical about the keen enhancement (say, in comparison to the flaming or ghost touch properties, for example). And, when you get...

    Non Magical Weapon Properties

DanMcS - I like those suggestions a lot - that's about what I was looking for really, nothing too earth-shattering, just a neat little something extra. Sir Brennen - I forgot about the HoHF books! I know the one for dwarves is available as a PDF, so I'll have to rummage around for that...

    Non Magical Weapon Properties

Hello all, I was wondering if I could get some help with an NPC I'm creating for a D&D game. He is a weaponsmith that specializes in bladed weapons (mostly daggers and short swords) and does not have any ability to enhance weapons magically. I wanted to portray this NPC as a master and make his...

The Soulknife: How does it play?

I think you're right about that. I may try that in my campaign.

Why don't companies show people how to use their books?

I have to give Mike Mearls some credit here - in the Book of Iron Might, he pointed out how some of the combat options could affect a game negatively. It's really easy for me to get overexcited to use new options I've read about, only to find out in play that someone (who has a better brain for...

    Bleh. Double post. :(

The Soulknife: How does it play?

I haven't played a single class soulknife, but decided to multiclass soulknife with psion. I don't think he's underpowered but that could be because we're still at a low level (4th level). Also, we haven't really found much in the way of magic items so far - I don't know if that's because of the...

    Alchohol During A D&D Game?

It really depends on the players to me. Most of our gaming group can have a beer or two and not be disruptive - it's really not a big deal at all. However, there is one player I can think of though who is not a good drunk, that is, he gets a little aggressive if he's had too many. So it really...

    D&D Social Stigma

Sniffles, you rock. :) This also reminds me of that flowchart that demonstrates the geek pecking order (http://www.brunching.com/geekhierarchy.html). Geekiness is relative. :)

What Movie Has Inspired the Most PC's in Your Game?

Damn. You are absolutely right. Though there has been various comic book characters, a female Captain Jack Sparrow and a couple of literary/historical legends as well. Although the strangest comparison I've ever gotten was when Gene said my character George was based on Jeff from Coupling. I...
