    Musketeer Paragon Class (PEACH)

Here are my recommendations, based on current weapon selection within the game as to balance these weapons. Ignore the historical, real world equivalents; otherwise, you'd have practically useless weapons that no one would dare take. Pistol (use Superior Crossbow in DDi application...

How to "capture" players using 4E rules?

More or less, this is supposed to be a battle they clearly cannot win (as their foes are clearly stronger than they are), but are prepared to engage in it anyhow in order to further the storyarc. I have a strong feeling they're going to put up a fight, as opposed to simply parlaying with the...

    6/2 DDI update complete!

I hope that the next expansion allows players to rename their powers. Been sitting on this one for a while! ;)

How to "capture" players using 4E rules?

My players are all around level 8-10. We're at the end of a huge storyarc, and in short (without going too much into the story or exposition) they're going to be able to follow two choices - one of which will lead to joining their foe, and another which will lead to their capture. While I want...

    Games you won't play

Whether it's standing in a park, beneath an office parking lot at dark, walking around the woods or playing in the safe confines of your house, pretending to be someone else while dressed up and resolving actions with paper, rock, scissors, it's all derivative of Vampire and "lighting bolt...

    Monotheism in a Polytheistic setting?

Yes. Read about the Divine Source here - http://deismaar.pbworks.com/Divine+Source. Put thru a request to join the wiki, as I keep it private. It's a monotheistic approach to treating a pantheon of gods as singular faces of one singular god.

    Games you won't play

I don't LARP; Vampire, all that jazz. Never have, never will. Uber gothic-themed games where players are werewolves, vampires, ghosts - those things just don't appeal to me in the very slightest.

What's so special about your homebrew?

In short, it is a low magic, politically-charged world that is entirely humanocentric. Some of the more interesting facets of the game revolve around a great internal war that has torn asunder one of the most influential and resource rich nations in the known world. The nation of Aglador...

Is D&D About Having Power Without Responsibility?

My experience as a player has been that a lot of people run games to simply "kill stuff, get loot" while following some fantastical storyline that has little if any permanent effect on the world around them. From the opinions I read often on EnWorld, I find that people much prefer this sort of...

    What's so special about Dragonlance?

I always loved the fact that wizardry is almost treated as a Masonic, elemental old boy's club and changes with the phases of the moon(s). Age of Mortals is awesome, too!

    For the Record

I honestly think that the minion idea was born from old school DnD, where you could wipe out a multitude of low level foes with Cone of Cold, Fireball and the like. Since they cleaned up the multiple dice mechanic, it seems like that they wanted to still allow players to cut through swaths of...

    For the Record

You know how to get around these sort of absurdities? Fluff-as-crunch. Zombies are the undead. They cannot be killed by conventional means. Players have to deal coupe de grace to each zombie to make certain it doesn't ressurect itself on a 5-6 recharge roll per round. Problem solved. ;)

    Defining Martial as Ki

"Ki" sounds far, far too Asiatic to be used as a core definition of martial characters. Martial seems fine; it's all semantics, anyhow!

D&D 4E Revised 4E Beholder Central Eye trademark power from old editions

I would like to start a series of posts addressing 'sacred cows" of old editions of Dungeons and Dragons and bring them full circle into 4th edition. One of the most perplexing changes was how they handled the zone of dead magic around the beholder in 4E. As a huge fan favorite, they gutted the...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

Adhering to the rules as presented within the PHB... Eagle Vision [Heroic tier] Prerequisite: Wis 13 Benefit: You ignore the -2 penalty to all defenses whenever a foe has combat advantage against you. Note that foes can still use sneak attacks and other forms of attack that require concealment...

    Numbers, numbers, and more numbers

I always ask for their final numbers. If they don't give the final number to me on the first go, they miss. It curbs the issue of managing player's sheets. I expect the players to know their powers and numbers; I don't have the time or patience to add and subtract for them. I also don't allow...
