Higher level paladins get automatic extra radiant damage on all their attacks plus a variety of smite spells and damaging channel divinity options. They are not going to have any trouble keeping up with the damage of a fighter.

The alpha PHB gives both medium armor proficiency and shields. And then a second attack at level 6. This does not seem overpowered in the slightest so I think there is a good chance that the final PHB will be the same.

Making the bard insiration ability go from 1 ally to "up to 5 allies" would be a math/balance change. So it seems like it is quite possible.

I think they can certainly be combined effectively. A trasmutation wizard with 5 levels of eldritch knight fighter would be quite potent....based on the alpha document at least.
