    D&D 4E 4e - Is it really D&D Yet?

OK, I can accept that. Thanks for the explanation. I don't see it the same way, but that's ok too. Now I know where you're coming form.

    D&D 4E 4e - Is it really D&D Yet?

I have a feeling he means the player tracks spell durations in relation to initiative in order to make sure spells last the right amount of time. In 4e the save mechanic actually acts as a timer when a spell effect does not have a set duration (and so far none of the targeted ones do).

    D&D 4E 4e - Is it really D&D Yet?

And that's all fine and dandy. But, WHY isn't it D&D to you? I am asking because I have a fascination with things like this that make shared experiences effect different people differently. Probably why I got a degree in Anthropology. Obviously we all like D&D to some extent to come on...

Hey Wormy! 'Sup wit' the new avatar? Where does one lay their hands on such a fine item?

    D&D 4E 4e - Is it really D&D Yet?

Yeah, I have noticed that. I didn't hang out in the forums during those times, but I am starting to see some of that in other posts. What amazes me i think is the number of people who seem ok with the DM having been relegated to 3rd class citizen status. Myself, I haven't DMed 3.5 in over...

    D&D 4E 4e - Is it really D&D Yet?

Sorry to hear that, but were the CAPS necessary? What does D&D feel like then? I have been playing just as long as you have and so far all the 4e I have played feels like D&D. And I agree with FE the "dummied down for kids" besides being incredibly ironic in at least 2 ways is also rather...

    Questions about Scorching Burst!

Actually it is quite pertinent if the wizard finds himself faced by a group of critters with some flying and some on the ground it could be very important to know how high the column is. My guess is this will be made clear one way or another in the full book when they come out.

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

For the record, the question was legitimate, the statement after was just me being sarcastic. I would choose B out of your 3 choices.

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

How would a simulationist approach Raise Dead then? I am anxious to see how Raise Dead works in the real world.

    Marked Advantage?

In the 2 sessions we have played so far with the pregen characters our fighter player has added some appropriately dwarven soliloquy every time he has marked an opponent, from "I'm the one you want to watch out for!" to "Come get some!!!".

    I'n a little concerned...

Also keep in mind that that particular power requires you have a shield equipped. I had an encounter happen last night while the group was trying to sleep and the dwarf woke up immediately in melee and was unable to grab the shield so was unable to use that power during that fight, and it would...

Gleemax Roundup I: Noonan and Baker on Gary Gygax, a TPK, MotP, and more...

As someone who has now actually run a couple of 4e sessions from everything we have been provided, AND as a former non-liker of 1-1-1-1 diagonals...I am now a believer. I just like it better, actually thats not true at all. I like it the same as 1-2-1-2. No more, no less. It is what it is...

What is the difference between push, pull, shift and slide?

Take a look at the Goblin Picador. He is the one with the Harpoon. If he hits with the Harpoon he can start pulling the hit character around the battlefield. The guy with the harpoon in his shoulder can try to break free with a STR vs Fort check.

    D&D 4E 4E is too video-gamey

However, there are other gnoll types. You're right that the gnoll strangler, if overused, will become exceedingly redundant. But what monster is that not true for? I think it is up to each and every DM to make these things special and memorable. The gnool strangler is but one tool in an...

D&D 4E Raiders of Oakhurst: A 4E Fan Playtest Adventure

    Noncombat Encounters

To expand on what Keterys said. We don't know a lot about riuals yet except that they will be "out of combat" spells with likely lengthy casting times. They will have no maximum number allowed to know. They will be tradeable and writeable just like spells in the current game.

So far. We are going to try out the Dragon and Pit Fiend to see how well they can be made to fit 3x5.
