If you heard the term "crunch renaissance"...

Probably pay very little attention to it unless it became a commonly enough seen phrase that I'd look into it simply to know what it means. At first blush, however, it seems to indicate something I'd not likely be interested in.

    Aaron Allston

Hear hear and seconding the Strike Force books as possibly one of the most influential books on GMing ever. So many basic concepts that have become commonplace I first encountered in that book.

What tv shows do you own on Dvd?

Firefly, Jeremiah, Babylon 5, Crusade, Star Trek (TOS - first season), Deadwood, BSG (through season 2), Game of Thrones (1-3), and probably some anime that I can't recall atm. Plus Monty Python's Flying Circus, Wanting to pick up Rome and Oz (especially), plus Robin of Sherwood, Lexx, and...

Would you eat Brad Pitt salami?

Ew. Though if no one else has mentioned Tasty Ghoul, I'll be quite disappointed.

    2013 Nebula Award Nominees

Nice to see Charles Gannon in there, even if I only know him from his excellent Traveller articles back in the old Challenge Magazine.

Is the Internet a hive of scum and villainy?

Not any more so than the naked face of humanity itself, no. Of course, you might infer a bit of realism-*koff* pessimism as some would have it from that but whatever. The internet isn't any worse than the species using it, IOW.

Are you cooler than your parents?

At my age? Hell yes! Though when she was younger, my mother was quite the hellraiser. So I really only win by comparison of "when we were both 41 years old."

i09 picks on D&D's 24 most ridiculous names, fails at basic reading

Well, it *is* io9, after all. I don't associate them with any but the most shallow commentary on, well anything really. They've always reminded me of "hipster SF commentary" which is a laughable idea unto itself. No offense to anyone who enjoys their articles, but it's just not for me.

Looks like someone doesn't like corvettes

THE EARTH GOD HUNGERS FOR CLASSIC MUSCLE CARS!! Clearly, that is the most reasonable explaination. Where will He strike next? What must we offer up in sacrifice to appease His Most Ravenous HUNGER? (And I could probably get a decent, if somewhat silly, modern magic/horror game out of this.)

would you play your least fav edition if asked by friends

It depends on which friends these were - and (very much) who the GM was. Some people can make a crap system just sing, or are just good enough GMs that their awesomeness outshines a hated system (I'm lucky, I've gamed with some REALLY good GMs over the years and have had the honor of calling...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

I think the next time I run D&D using alignment I'm just going to run it as a space on the character sheet for the player to put down whatever they want to use to describe that. Like character name.

D&D 5E (2014) Tyranny of Dragons is Coming! - the next storyline

Conceivably just a wee bit yeah. Might want to redact that one, kmdietri. Back on topic, while I'm not interested in D&D 8/Next/Whatever, all that marketing talk is a huge turn off for me, and I'm sure for other people besides. I mention this because, really, what good has WotCs really...

Numenera is Getting Sexy and More

Cool. I don't play Numenera or have any real interest in doing so, but good for them. While I recognize that 'mature' often serves as code for 'sexism, crude language, and toilet humor' it isn't always and I appreciate not every game out there feeling a need to white wash their games into...

    Running Multiple Characters

I can. It was much more common when I was younger (esp when the amount of actual RP occurring was minimal, in all honesty). Today I can and have (recently even) - though I think my ability to do so has everything to do with having spent most of the 90s and about half of the 'Oughts stuck in...

It's D&D's 40th anniversary. Tell me your D&D history, and what it means to you!

I was first exposed to D&D by among the first of those comic book style ads for D&D in the back of an otherwise forgettable Star Trek comic in the fall of 1980. Shortly I was gifted with the Holmes Basic set and it's been a long strange journey of exploring the uncharted number of "weird and...

D&D 5E (2014) Tyranny of Dragons is Coming! - the next storyline

Sooooo....Scales of War/Dragonlance mashup, now set in the Realms? Uh...'kay. Not sure what else there is to say, my brain having been beaten numb by all the marketing speak in the USA today article.

D&D 5E (2014) DM needs help with outcome from using Cursed Wishing Gem

Two thoughts come to mind - 1. the feather fall spell occurs as directed; an obviously supernatural (black lightning, hot hail stones, etc.) windstorm whips up almost immediately....and blows the affected NPC miles and miles away - presumably directing the PCs to rescue the NPC...and encounter...
