    Funniest DM/player faux pas

Probably my worse DM faux pas was just this last Sunday. The PCs are dealing with a trapped Pit Fiend, trying to get it to agree to wear the Helm of Opposite Alignment ( only vs evil ) one of the PCs crafted about 10 levels ago without resisting its effects, in exchange for freeing it from this...

What were medieval times journalist-types called?

I do believe a good term would be 'Rumormonger'. One who sells rumors.

    Long campaigns

My campaign started at 5th, and now has at least one of the original characters sitting at 25th. But the game is still going. I don't expect it to finish until around 30th.

After being DM can PLAYING ever be as good?

Can't tell you. I started off as a GM, and didn't actually get to play anything for several years afterwards.

How easy is it to SELL magic items in your game?

Easy as pie. The PCs are based out of Waterdeep. Every magic item shop is a fortress, since even the smallest permanent items cost as much as most cottages. So the most logical magic item market would be the wizard's school/arcanist's guild. And since seeing the 'Tap Item' feat in the netbook of...

Would you be satisifed with d20 as your only RPG? [Ties into RyanD's blog entry.]

Definately not. d20 Isn't even my primary system of choice, let along my only system. I am too fond of Hero, BRP Call of Cthulhu, and Feng Shui.

    The Economics of Identify

The PCs identify their own items. This would be for the merchant or tax-man to double check what the PCs claim the item is. As for the PCs buying items and getting screwed, that's what courts and arbitration is for. ( Or a large blade in a soft merchant belly on some cold dark night. )

    The GF in the Game

It is far worse for a GM to have a GF that doesn't game, and doesn't want him to, than to have a GF that eagerly participates in RP as a shared activity. Immature GMs suck, regardless of whether their SO games or not.

    The Economics of Identify

Or someone could just create a custom item to cast Identify at will... Make it a nice, mostly immobile item, like an altar, or a large table that writes out the properties of any item that is placed on it.

What makes a Monty Haul Game?

Wouldn't a Monte Cristo be more about covering the party in egg-batter, deep frying them, then serving them with raspberry jam?

You Got Peanut Butter in My Chocolate...D&D and Science-Fiction

I used to be really bugged by Sci-fi in fantasy, but I gradually got over it. Now I prefer the inverse to Clark's Law: Any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology. Lightning railways, fireball-rifles, rods of messaging that look kinda like telephone handsets, or...

What is your overused plot hook ?

So, your sitting in the tavern with all your remaining friends and a few new faces... You've had more than a few ales, and you're getting lonely, and right at your feet is a giant yawning portal into Undermountain. Besides, you're a better fighter than Thog ever was. Though what that pack of...

How much risk do parties enjoy?

I voted for a death every 4 sessions, though I was torn between that and Every session is a possible TPK. It all depends on how the players are doing that day. The average party level is 23, and their opposition varies from EL 23 through EL 30. But if they aren't careful, they could all die at a...

Lower Level Create Food and Water?

Goodberry. Druid 1: Casting goodberry upon a handful of freshly picked berries makes 2d4 of them magical. You (as well as any other druid of 3rd or higher level) can immediately discern which berries are affected. Each transmuted berry provides nourishment as if it were a normal meal for a...

    What module are you running?

I'm currently about half way into running Drow Wars III: The Darkest Hour from Mongoose Games. The PCs are currently barreling through it blindly, missing the helpful clues, but getting the important ones. At some point, I expect it will catch up to them and they'll get mauled en masse, since...

Tabasco Sauce: Whats your favorite kind?

I like the normal red Tabasco also, it has good flavor. I tried the Dave's Insanity sauce once, but wasn't too impressed. I prefer Blair's Possible Side Effects. It has a bit more kick. Though I'm still looking for something too hot to eat...

How much profanity in your game?

It depends on the time of evening, since each swear word requires a $0.50 donation to the piggy bank of each child that is in earshot. But once the kids go to bed, it gets a bit worse. Not too much though, since everyone tries to stay in the habit of not swearing. Game night is going to pay for...
