    Inherent PC Superiority?

Yes, this. The PCs are the heroes. I don't need stuff, but I do need the right capabilities.

Loyalty among gamers, does it exist?

That's true, but opinions vary as to what is a "reasonable shot." Some won't even give it a try, which I don't consider loyal individually or making a group collectively. That's just a bunch of individuals. And, that's okay too.

Loyalty among gamers, does it exist?

Yeah, the 2 friends I regularly game with now I've known for 20 & 11 years respectively. I think the 3 of us are more loyal to each other & the group, and we are willing to play games that are not our first choice if the others are excited about it; but there are still limits. I took about a 6...

Loyalty among gamers, does it exist?

Right. It was fun enough for you to play those games with that group, but would you do it again? Would you play for an extended period if the majority of the group decided to do so?

Loyalty among gamers, does it exist?

Well, this thread caught my eye. No surprise since I was the second poster in the other thread. My point is that gamers are basically loyal to something else--themselves. That doesn't mean that they are not or cannot be loyal to their friends or "the game". In fact, I've found that gamers...

    Things I Miss....

Do all the PCs have the same class (like the Explorer in Omega World d20 or the Judge from Judge Dredd d20) or do you not allow multiclassing? I like it either way, and I have considered restricting classes, too. For Sons of Conan, there will be no PC spellcasters (Conan would not name a magic...

    Things I Miss....

No, I think he's OK with random stats; and so I am I. The difference with Gamma World is that you randomly roll your 2 backgrounds which then define your character. You get an 18 stat for the primary background and a 16 stat for the secondary. The rest are rolled randomly, but they don't...

    AD&D: There and Back Again - a Role-Player's Tale

Glad you're liking 1e. I think you might like Savage Worlds if you played it a while. I've played a lot of D&D and other RPGs since '80, but Savage Worlds really changed the way I look at the game.

Tell Me About Savage Worlds (please)...

I use the card-based initiative for other games, including d20 derivatives. Thanks for the recap. Sounds fun.

    Things I Miss....

Ironically, we just discussed last week that it is the randomness that one of my players likes least about Gamma World and all games in that genre. He loves building a character. Even I identified the lack of character development as a relative weakness of Gamma World for playing a game longer...

    Gaming Group Troubles

As I said, I've been there. Here's my brief experience. Ten years ago, our group had seven members. Now, we are three. It seems like we had just about every kind of conflict you have described. Three of the seven moved out of town, and we added another who is unreliable about anything. The...

Tell Me About Savage Worlds (please)...

No, we'll enjoy Gamma World for what it is. We're enjoying it, and I really like the "fire & forget" set up with the lighter rules, maps & counters all included. I'm about to start the first expansion. If the second is good then I'll run it, too. If I want to do more post-apoc I'll...

    Gaming Group Troubles

Man, I've been there. It really stings to have your group quit your game, especially if they are friends. But, it happens; and it sounds like it has happened to you. The worst part to me is that you apparently were not invited to the Pathfinder replacement game. But you still get to play in...

Tell Me About Savage Worlds (please)...

We love Savage Worlds. It really is fast, furious & fun as advertised. Running it changed the way I game. My preparation time decreased about 90%, and I felt like I was able to develop the story more than worry about the rules; as compared to d20. I still like D&D 3.5 for all the minis...

What is the #1 most important thing to remember about DMing?

Yes. For one game I DM'd, I used a digital timer to remind me to drink a glass of water every 15 minutes (or so). It cuts down on the DMing hnagover.

    So, Hackmaster Basic?

Early playtests are negative for our group. I think the DM still wants to give it a go, though. I haven't read the whole book yet so I am unsure, but what I have seen doesn't excite me. I plan to hold off until the other players do some more playtesting to see if it is going to make it. The...

If you have played 3.5e regularly within the past 5 years, what are you playing now?

4e Gamma World at the moment, but I would go back to 3.5 for fantasy. We play Savage Worlds for other genres but have discussed doing fantasy with it. I have too many D&D minis to make it time effective to convert away from d20.

[RPG Advocacy] Help Rate Game Difficulty

Here are my ratings from games I know: 7-Dungeons and Dragons (4th edition) 3-Savage Worlds 2-Gamma World (4e-based) 7-Traveller (Mongoose edition) 7-Hollow Earth Expedition 7-Mutants and Masterminds (3rd edition) D&D 4e is not a simple game, which is why I gave it a 7. It was accessible to...

    Freeform GMing

I can't do total freeform, but the improvisational moments of my GMing have presented me some of the most fun. I find a framework for me to work within then gives me the flexibility to improvise when & as needed. I need a map but not necessarily a prescribed route.

    Taken Prisoner

Ditto. I've never enjoyed it as a player, so I won't do it as a GM. Now, you could make them the ones who escaped the caravan raid, giving them the chance to rescue others. Otherwise, think of a different start.
