    Gamma World Dark Sun hybrid

Has anyone done or considered a Gamma World (GW) Dark Sun (DS) hybrid? I really like the new GW, although 4e wasn't to my taste; and reading another thread here about DS made me interested. So, I am thinking about a GW DS mash up. Basically, I would want to run GW characters & rules through...

Success: Playing Savage Worlds in the Firefly Universe

Yep, Savage Worlds is awesome. I like the spin you're using of having the heroes be Alliance Special Forces essentially rescuing the gifted from the criminals. That's a nice reversal of the story lines from the TV series & movie. It also seems to free you from the main thing that I couldn't...

How come no one is discussing Gamma World?

Well, I've been busy running it weekly. We're having fun with it. I need to work on preparing it now a little, as a matter of fact.

    Best edition of Gamma world?

Yep, Omega World is a great game. And, it is nice to see a compliment from the publisher. I bought 3 copies, and it is a steal of a download for $4.95: http://paizo.com/dungeon/products/issues/2002/v5748btpy7zeq I would run or play it again in a minute, d20 & all. The defects can be a...

Players, have you fired your DM?

In a way, I've "fired" every DM in a game that I've stopped attending; and I've been "fired" as a DM in many of the games I've stopped running. Not every game is a success, even when playing among friends. Few campaigns get to an actual end, even if one is planned. The trouble with my group...

Can you suggest a RPG system.

Yep, Savage Worlds, for all the reasons mentioned upthread. When I first ran it, it reduced my prep time by about 90%. The only other suggestion I have is to try a D&D minis skirmish campaign. It will give you what you seek as a DM. But, it doesn't really have the options and skills that...

    Walking away from a game...

The last game I left was a 3.5 D&D game. It was run by a long-time player, first time DM. He made a couple of rookie mistakes at first but genreally did well. What did me in was other players dominating the story and the action. After a few months of play, it all started to feel familiar...

    Gamma World...Impressions.

I've been having fun running it. My group is down to 3 of us now, so I only have 2 players. I put the PCs through the game day adventure, Trouble in Freesboro. The first session I had a giant android and a yeti speedster. The second session had a player substitution, so it was the giant...

What kind of print products would want WotC to produce?

A boxed campaign should have the setting in brief, the adventure outline, the encounters, the big combat maps and the monster tokens; at a minimum. It would be great if it also presented a simplified set of rules and character cards, but I would buy those as separate products if the boxed...

The "real" reason the game has changed.

I agree with the OP and with the Savage Worlds philosophy. The return on my gaming investment has to be pretty high to justify the opportunity cost to my family, career and other activities.

What kind of print products would want WotC to produce?

I want more products like Gamma World: simple, self-contained, familiar & expandable. For example, if Hammerfast had included more encounters with maps & tokens, I might have bought 4e to run it. A boxed set that presents an entire adventure setting with maps & counters is more likely to get...

What Do You Need to Know About Enemies?

My best advice is to use the pre-printed stat cards from D&D minis. Then, you have awesome, prepainted minis to use too. I did it for a DDM skirmish mini-campaign and it was great. I think letting the PCs have all their options will still be workable since you can just use more foes or not...

Ok, now i'm REALLY CONFUSED. AKA, do any of you think you know what WotC is doing?

Yeah, you want a lot of flavor choices when you go to the ice cream shop, even though vanilla is the best selling one. To the OP, I have no idea what WOTC is doing. But I'm sure the manangement meetings are like a Dilbert strip. Something about refocusing on core competencies to leverage...

    Edition Fatigue

Yes, I think there is a way to do it: keep it accessible & familiar. I mean, established gamers will buy into new editions as long as they are relatively easy to get into & keep many concepts that players already know (& love). Here is my own experience. D&D peaked for me with 3.0. I...

    First Gamma World Game!

I like the fire & forget model of the new Gamma World. I think it can be used for a long-term campaign, though. In my experience, a game that progresses the characters through 10 levels is long-term. I intend to try it beginning this week. Omega World d20 is an excellent game, too. I'd...

One Thing You Can Do to Become a Better DM

Read, play & run other games. I've found that it really broadens my gaming horizens. But be warned, some (like Savage Worlds) may ruin you for other games.

    Gamma World-inspired dual-class design

I'd love to see a D&D version with the Gamma World treatment. It starts with rolling for your race & calss combo and stays simple from there. I'm not sure they can (or will) reverse engineer it like that, but it would make me buy 4e (or 5e).
