    Try Savage Worlds.

Kickstarter Too many Kickstarter projects? Is Kickstarter the new d20 glut?

I think it's interesting, and I've contributed to a few on kickstarter and indiegogo; but I have yet to receive the first product. There have been sporadic updates, so I feel reassured that the books are coming eventually. I probably won't do as much in the future. Whoever said that you have...

D&D 5E (2014) How Can D&D Next Win You Over?

Miniatures. Painted. With stat cards. And the foes should be ready to run from that card. More nostalgic adventures are good, too.

    AD&D Commemorative Core 3: I Haz 'Em!

That's why I'm getting one. I hope they sell a million.

Which D&D edition do you *really* prefer?

I really prefer D&D Miniatures. I ran a very fun mini-campaign with the Miniatures Handbook simple rules for advancement. If I could get that level of simplicity for the foes, I would love to run 3.0 or even 3.5 again with greater levels of complexity for the players. As it is, I really...

    Confidence in WotC

Mostly confident. I like what I've seen of 5e so far. I did not get any 4e and 3.5 was lukewarm to me after the 3.0 d20 hotness, but I think they are doing some good things for 5e. I especially like WotC's own old school revival by reprinting the 1e and 3.5e core rulebooks almost...

I'm Sick Of...(D&D tropes that you can do without)

I grew most weary of the emphasis on & rewarding of tactical & strategic play where a hero's reward is death with his allies looting his body. The game rewards that, and it is not helped by the complexities of magic generally and upper level play specifically. D&D is a great low-level game...

Can I combine different D20 system rules for a Wild West campaign?

You should be able to pick & choose d20 elements for your game relatively easily. I think d20 is a great system for Western games. I would not favor Modern or a lot of options from other books, but the basic system works well. There are many modifications you can make to suit your play style.

GM Confessional: I fudged like a Banshee (just not on the dice rolls)

I like it. Ease of preparation is one of the things I really love about Savage Worlds. That game urges GMs to just make the kind of character they want without strict adherence to the guidelines for the PCs. The same kind of advice was presented in Omega World d20. Kind of a keep it simple...

Help my gaming group choose the system for our next game

Yes, Savage Worlds can do anything. But, along 4e lines, I recommend Gamma World. It is a simplified version of those rules, and the game is fire & forget out of the box. For an easy D&D flavor, have a look at the new playtest.

So the playtest is out: What do you think? The EN World poll!

I like it, and I think WotC is on the right track. The idea that checks, skills & saves are all essentially ability-based is a great simplification of those rules. Feats seem to be folded into class & background features now (a simplification of 3e). I like the dis/advantage system, but I...

    If classes were a color.

This is why I import the card-based initiative from Savage Worlds to other games. Dealing cards from a standard deck then counting down from ace to deuce with suits in reverse alphabetical order is a very visual way to keep the initiative count each round.

Player Buy In and Game Sub-Systems

For me as a player, I generally have no problem with subsystems. What would make me lose interest is if it goes too far into strategy & tactics. Something that is more abstract than the player character level game is fine with me for big picture stuff. The mass battles rules in Savage...

    Car Wars 2013?

I am glad this is a go. I enjoyed playing Car Wars back in the day, and I like the newer card game.
