That's awesome. Where did he get all the cool maps?

This sounds like a number of problems from different directions: 1) A group unfamiliar with military tactics (probably most roleplayers, lol), so this one might need some help from the GM. Idea roll to see that there's a hill that will give advantage or a set of crates that will give good...

For those who have embraced new systems/games, what was the deciding factor?

“Enjoy trying new systems” will probably cover it.

For those who have embraced new systems/games, what was the deciding factor?

Yeah this poll is focused on the embraced thing.
  5. Wolfpack48

How open are you to trying new systems?

Ok, and just a temperature check on how eager or not folks are to trying a new system or game. Add comments as you like!

For those who have embraced new systems/games, what was the deciding factor?

Ok so we did the rejecting systems poll. Now, for those who have changed, what prompted you? Add your own reason if it isn’t listed! 😊

I'd say just buff their characters and let them steamroll some monsters in Dragonbane, then gradually make it a bit tougher as you go... You can houserule more HP, or give them another Heroic Ability or two... Kids are gonna wanna powergame. :ROFLMAO:

LOL, that's how we played in our early days. As we got older, we discovered it's not as much fun if it's too easy. I think that just comes with maturity. For now, whatever is the most fun for them is the right thing to do. :ROFLMAO:

Having an imaginative group is a real blessing in roleplaying. The problem I run into is new players who are not ready to have full freedom to do things -- they are always asking "what am I allowed to do here?" either due to playing lots of computer games, or just not used to having ultimate...

Did you know there was actually an MMORPG named Greed Monger? And that people actually threw money at it? It's as if someone walked up to a group of people and said, "I want to swindle you!" And a bunch of people said, "OK, sounds awesome!" :ROFLMAO: https://www.mmorpg.com/greed-monger

I distinctly remember running the AD&D A-series when monsters began using strategy and environment in their fights; it was a revolution. The players began taking more notice of objects and terrain in their planning, and it was a key ingredient moving to wilderness, city and other non-dungeon...

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

Ooh, that's an interesting one. Okay, I'm going to tweak the poll a bit.

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

Good point, I could add another entry for "Open to change but enjoying current system" but not sure how much it would affect the poll. The real trends seem to be in scheduling and time investment. It might affect that last pick "If it aint' broke" to make the distinction.

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

New Heroic Ability at skill 18. One of them, Robust, gives more HP! ☺️ Also, "Current system fulfills a character power dynamic" :ROFLMAO:

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

All good. It's nice to have perspectives from all sides. Might do another poll for groups who have broken into new games.
  17. Wolfpack48

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

It's interesting to differentiate between actual dollar cost and perceived cost of getting into a new system. Dollars spent on D&D can potentially be much higher than for other systems, but I wonder if players believe all systems are equally pricey. It may be perceived effort vs actual effort...

One thing we learned when we switched over to BRP style games (Call of Cthulhu being our first) is that player strategy and the ability to use the environment to plan ahead is a BIG advantage when encountering tough foes. Brute force loses to thoughtful planning (almost) every time. Now...

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

Well, since this discussion is going on in another thread, thought it might be interesting to do a poll. Pick as many as apply to your group or players, feel free to add your reasons if they aren't captured!
