Ghosting a player who casually mentions they like lighter rule systems sounds like they have a personal issue with the player. Maybe it’s not ageism, but it sure as hell doesn’t sound like a “we only love 3.5 issue.”

Perhaps valid question: what was the age differential between you and the rest of the group? Age discrimination in RPGs is a thing.

Just remember that most “auto hits” come with a free reaction roll (basically a saving throw) of some kind. So effects can be reduced or even nullified. I wouldn’t house rule this either. The point is to make monsters a more serious threat.

2nd edition here we come. I also think the Heroic Actions header is used twice and one of those sections should be titled Weaknesses instead.

Good point -- some spells could very well be non-magical Heroic Abilities instead.

I would think +1 armor (or ring of protection etc) would basically give +1 to an armor rank. Maybe a ring would stack with whatever armor you have. While a +1 sword might just give +1d4 damage (+2 = +1d6, +3 = +1d8), and might have a “magical” property if that helps in some way. You could do a...
