    Dragonbane general thread

One thing I'm wrestling with a bit are Dragonbane conditions. They are much simpler than D&D conditions, only adding a bane to stats and stat-based skills. D&D has quite a few more conditions with added effects, It may just be that I don't need those conditions, but Prone for example is a D&D...

    NPC Deception/Persuasion and player agency

Hey I get to determine how fear affects me, right? Right?? 😉

Taking better notes when reading a new RPG rule set.

I’ve been a bit disappointed in recent GM screens. Feels la lot of space taken up with infrequently used charts and tables could be better used by cheat sheets/short form rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Docks Illustration?

Yeah I was looking around after posting and not finding it in Dragon Heist or Sword Coast Adventurers Guide. Even checked ChatGpt for Gregory Manchess in D&D art and it came back saying he had done some work but found none. I must have seen it online somewhere and misremembered. I wonder now if...

dbm made a good point earlier. When rolling with a boon, you take the lowest roll, so it would get a bit complicated when doing an opposed roll. It may give the low skill guy a boost, but the opposed roll isn't really used often enough to worry about it.

Taking better notes when reading a new RPG rule set.

One thing you can do is build a cheat sheet with key points from the rules. If on pdf, just copy and paste into Word or Excel or whatever works for you. Moleskine if you like to write with pencil/pen.

    D&D 5E (2014) Docks Illustration?

Guys, thanks for the 5e Ghosts of Saltmarsh reviews, but all I was looking for was an illustration. I'm all set. 😉

    D&D 5E (2014) Docks Illustration?

"The docks of Saltmarsh are the beating heart of the town. The fishing trade and related commerce that keep the town alive are based here.... The docks have recently undergone a series of expansions intended to lure larger merchant vessels into the port. Two primary piers are used to load and...

Yeah, it must be some other book. Maybe it's the new DMG.

Found it online, but I still don't know which book it's from. So strange.

    D&D 5E (2014) Docks Illustration?

Ok, so this is driving me a little crazy. There’s a picture in 5e somewhere of people unloading crates from ships from what I thought was the Saltmarsh docks. It’s sort of low perspective looking up showing a bustling docks. For the life of me I can’t find that picture. I thought it was in...

    Dragonbane general thread

It’s interesting to see the paths of replicating the old school feel with a true duplication of the old rules vs simulating the feel using modern rules. As players of AD&D, we were even then looking for ways to smooth the play. That said, D&D played pretty well once you learned the rules. I’m...

    Dragonbane general thread

A big reason I switched over to RQ, COC and BRP in my later gaming years was keeping the threat level alive at all points of the game. Our most fun D&D games were levels 1-7 when we felt like we could buy it at any point but gradually felt more capable as we went. We figured out HP and AC...

Interesting. Why do you think your group resisted OSE and were ok with Dragonbane?

    Good point, and it’s consistent.

We're only talking the scenario where both rolls succeed and one player is more skilled than the other. The other cases are straightforward -- whoever succeeds and the other fails, the one who succeeds wins.
