D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Indeed, is it the "monster" that is evil or the mob (us) driven by our own fears and hatreds? That is the true message. That said, there are beasties both human and otherwise to be defeated, and it's okay to list them in the Monster Manual with all their darknesses.

Hot take: get rid of the "balanced party" paradigm

I am tending to agree, but only insomuch as players should have the freedom to play what they want. That said, I often see players ask "what would be a good fit for the party?" if they are entering an established game. So they are thinking in terms of complementary roles too. I would be more...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Entering this discussion late and apologies if it's already been covered, but it seems to me that, even outside D&D, there's long been a struggle or questioning of the definition of an "evil" monster. As far back as Frankenstein (was it the monster who was evil or was it the doctor who created...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

In any case, a PC with magic rings on every finger is well into the realm of ridiculous.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

In most games we've played, simply obtaining the ingredients to craft a magic item is expensive, time-consuming and risky. Abstracting crafting to a simple gold for magic item swap or purchase cheapens the magic item considerably. You can even make obtaining a rare ingredient for the item the...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

There are the parts of any rulebook that are highly subjective and always open to being ignored. Any player quoting us chapter and verse of any rulebook isn't welcome at our table.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Nah, just not the preferred way to run our individual game.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Which is why we make our own guidelines. You think we're gonna let some silly rule book push our group around? We regularly ignore stuff like this.

When Combat Isn't Always *About* Combat

Fight on the side of a cliff ala Indiana Jones. Fight on a slowly erupting volcano. Tree fight in the jungle Running fight across rooftops in the city. Fight while outrunning an avalanche.

Epic/High fantasy game for a one-shot introductory game

It's pretty darn intuitive. It could actually be the best game for beginners. I'm running it with Greyhawk and we're having a grand time.

D&D 5E (2014) Quests From The Infinite Staircase

Not really paying attention to this but I do find all these new classifications kinda confusing.

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

We can look more closely at 2014 vs 2024 later. That wasn’t the intention of this poll.

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

Well keep in mind this the TTRPG General forum. Probably different results on the actual D&D forum. That said, if you add up all the variants, other editions and retroclones, it’s actually D&D Family 68, non-D&D 55.

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

Yeah, this might better fit the "D&D-adjacent" category.

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Glumdark, The Secret World, ZineMonth 2025 Begins, and more

Yeah the problem I think has always been the niche nature of the game. It’s the best thing about it for me but ironically prevents it from gaining a mass audience.

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

The answer depends on exactly what the actual very next game is then I guess (as opposed to every possible future game). The question does say “next game” after all. “Not sure” is an option too.
