    New Article: Death and Dying

Beating the heck out of something/someone and trying to revive them to interrogate them isn't metagaming.

    New Article: Death and Dying

I figured it meant 1 hp a round to start, 1-10 bleedign at the rate set, 11-18 bleed 1 hp more a round, 19-20 snap out of it. so the 1st roll of 11-18 you are now bleeding 2hp a round, 2nd roll of 11-18 you are now bleeding 3hp a round, 3rd roll...gack, sputter, rattle..dead.

    Off Screen NPCs Purely Detrimental?

All of those good turns should be possible as well, every NPC isn't out to get the PCs or an easy victim. But tying adventures to exsisting relationships with a PC is a good idea. If each PC only has 2 adventures caused by friendly NPC victimization/betrayal the stereaotypicla 4 player...

    Off Screen NPCs Purely Detrimental?

Because we think we need to or we do need to have those relationships. Yes it really shoudl be "at times" but PCs are unique in that they are the stars. Most folks generally only read books or watch films where somethign is happenign that is exciting as oppsoed to stuff tales where not much...

    Off Screen NPCs Purely Detrimental?

Why shoudl all of a PCs relations be beneficial? In real life an awful lot of relationships are ones of duty and obligation and they are rather annoying at times and yet people keep said relationships . The princess in there to get kidnapped, the rich uncle is there to be killed and leave you a...

    Cops looting bodies?

One could be declared an outlaw under medieval law simply by being accused of a crime. The outlaw lost all property and rights and any contract he was party to fell void. His chattels came under the possession of the King, and any land he owned would often be restored to the chief lord in the...

    Off Screen NPCs Purely Detrimental?

Hasn't anyone ever noticed things don't go so well for family and friends of heroes in action/adventure films? The way a DM should balance this is by having friends and relatives of villains.

    Whiney players....

So why doesn't the whiner simply have his PC flee? Don't want to fight the battle... well don't fight the battle.

    Cops looting bodies?

Ever see the movie Soylent-Green...nevr mind the food stuff. The police in that film are buzzards , they supplement their living by looting the homes of victims and criminals. How much does the lady of pain really care aboutprivate property? i'd warrant she doesn't give a darn as long as the...

    Building a Sandbox

Throw in some raiding, a little slaving and a bit of farming and you get more orc warriors. A little more then simple hunter/gathering and you can have huge populations in small areas. The Balim Valley in the highlands of Western New Guinea, is occupied by the Dani people, a traditionally...

    Castle and Crusaes Paladin

Got my PHB directly from the publisher in pretty darned rapid fashion. If you enjoy the condendsed or intro rules it is worth the money. The Paladin gets to turn undead, lay on hands, smite evil and gets a cool steed. The monk beats the bejebus out of stuff while unaremed, and has a lot of HP...

    Castle and Crusaes Paladin

As per the old school philosophy C&C is base on you don't need NPC classes. You can stat up anything you want to, as you want to. Knights stand out from Fighters and Paladins. Knights lead and inspire, Paladins smite evil and have a few divine powers but no spells, monks kick a lot of stuff...

    Best Post-apocalyptic RPG?

The Postman or I am Legend where their is weird stuff out there but people are people sort of settings I'd go with GURPS,D20 modern or M20 and do background setting work. Redline is a good for mad-max with 50 style mutants. Darwin's World is good for mutant hunter style action, the default...

    Nonhuman noncombatants?

-Would it be evil to slaughter them, given that they are, after all, noncombatants, even if they are orcs? No becasue they are in fact evil. Unless that facts are somehow different. -Would it be evil to let them live, if you view orcs and other humanoids as inherently evil? Mercy is never...

    15 Minute NPCs

yeah, tables are a good idea. I used them plenty and modified for race and multiclassign pretty quickly. also it isn't all that hard to simply wing it, level +5 for class skills (assuming an ability bonus here). levels for cross class skills.

    Building a Sandbox

Do lots of generic prep. Have sets of universal stats. Prepare some adventure suites, short 4,5,6 oom dungeons that are tied to specific locations. these suites are where yuo put in the hard work full of flavor and description. prepare generic dungeons. A couple of levels deep at most that...

    Building a Sandbox

Create a wourld with a little versimilitude. Stuff is there because it is there nto becasue the Pcs are level X. but that being said for a "sandbox" campaign it's a good idea to have a few easy to spot tough adveture/evil locations, some that will most certainly kill 1st level characters...

    Discussing the D&D economy

An easy solution is to throw in a few coin names and a few additional metals but keep things in sane land. copper pennies, copper farthings and copper minums silver pennies, silver shillings, silver nobles and silver guilders gold guilders, gold royals, gold imperials bronze pennies, bronze...
