    Passive Trapfinding?

"Gnome On A Rope" is a great passive trap finding system. Walk the little fewllow infront of you with about 15-20 feet of give on the line. Yank him out of conflagrations and pits shouldhe trigger such traps and hopefully stay out of the area of effect yourself.

Why Shouldn't Martial Characters have powers?

OD&D, 3 base classes, 1 could cast spells at 1st level. BECM D&D, 7 base classes, 2 could cast spells at 1st level. AD&D (PHB only), 11 base classes, 4 could cast spells at 1st level. 2E, 8 base classes, 2 could cast spells at 1st level 3E (PHB only), 11 classes, 5 could cast spells at 1st level.

Full circle: D&D now being based on video games...

seemingly staying in the middle "comfort zone" longer. I've been playing D&D computer games for 25 years now. not a stated goal in the slightest. the contrary actually mentioned several times. I wonder why you misssed the actual videogame like aspects they have mentioned.

How long does it take to drink a beer?

I'm holding out for that job that lets me watch T.V. in my underwear all day long for $70,000+ a year. 12 seconds for a beer quaff and no skill roll.

Spiked Chain + Great Cleave = DM's Nightmare

I just don't allow the AOO cleave, becasue AOO is supposed to be agaisn the target that initiates the AOO not other targtes and a target with cover ins't targteable on an aoo (unless there is some feat, which there must be). Spikedchain and combat reflexes is still awesomely dangerous but not...

    Weapon Speed

Mayhaps the attacker with the shorter weapon isn't allowed to close (and thus get an attack) if the oppoent with the longer weapon fends them off by delivering a successful attack on the AOO. Actullaly realistic and ficitinally supported, the badass with the big weapon swinging away at a circle...

    Player Revolt

I vaguely recall lots of screaming, flying wads of paper and half empty drink bottles, upturned tables and chairs all over the place. Gee I hope I wasn't DMing that session...

    Weapon Speed

I've been in hundreds of dagegr versus polearm combats and the only ones a knife/dagger fighter really has a chance at are in hugely differigngskill levels and beign able to grab the other guys pole arm. The "speed" of a dagger is a pretty much a gamer myth.

    Repositioning the "Wizards Presents:" books

no, you have it completely backwards. advertisers pay money to the magzine in the hopes you will see the ad. Yo uare not paying for the ads, that ads are paying for themselves and part of the printing cost for the non-ad poriton of the magazine.

40 year old man wants to join my game

yeah having a guy that can bring a six pack or two to the game would be awful. JOKING. I've gamed with a wide age raneg of players for years. Part of that is becasue of gaming with family however. My current group has an age span of 45 years between the youngest and oldest players. The...

POLL: Would you play D&D without a Skill System?

It all depends on how picky i want to be within the campaign. I'm currently playing in D&D derivative where we don't use skills other then the thief skills for the thief. I do use ability checks but only when stuff matters in a heroic situation.

    What's wrong with Mini-Centric?

    What's wrong with Mini-Centric?

i was respondig to the assertion that miniatures were not an bulit-in presumption since the earliest version of the rules...they were, as you agree. They were not required and they still aren't. One needn't create house rules for abstract combat resolution one simply applies the rules in a...

    What's wrong with Mini-Centric?

the subtitle under orginal rules heading of "DUNGEONS & DRAGONS" read "Rules for Fantastic Medieval Wargames Campaigns Playable with Paper and Pencil and Miniature Figures" so yeah...miniatures were there since day 1. Sure you could get by without them but the rules were written from a...

    What's wrong with Mini-Centric?

to the economic argument- So don't use the WOTC d&D figures, there are dozen of other manufacturers out there. Or any figures at all use counter, or paper stand-ups. The economics of mini/battlemat use isn't a barrier. to the "becomign more miniatures based" argument- plese, enough of that...
