Edition wars! Games other than D&D

Chaosium is very conservative regarding rules changes. Although the Call of Cthulhu book is in its 6th edition, it still uses the same edition of the rules, with little changes. Iron Crown definetly missed the spot with RMSS. I hate this version ever more than I love RM1/2, which are not very...

    Undermountain Begins! (And DMGII Tidbit...)

A book with advice about running a game and designing adventures! I wonder if they are finally admiting that the current DMG is rather weak about helping the DM to do his job.

    Top 5 D&D Books

The D&D Rules Cyclopedia No other book is necessary. Ah, regarding core books, I think they will do as a dice rolling plataform.

    D&D Minis vs. Warhammer?

I don't do minis, but people that do are still fatithful to Warhammer.

Is Dragon Magazine even *Relevant* anymore?

Dragon should take advantage of WotC's proprieties, such as Greyhawk, Eberron, and other settings. Additionally, they can try to publish expansion to popular WotC's rulebooks, such as variant to classes introduced in the Complete series or in Frostburn. By doing this Dragon will make itself...

    My OD&D campaign

Since December, I've being running a game with the D&D Rules Cyclopedia and it has been a blast. Only one of the players have previous experience with the BXCM D&D rules but I manage to recruit three more to the fandom. Yours sounds to be a lot fun, enjoy it!

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Any chance you would be able to revise the nomenclature in the novels to make them consistent with Greyhawk? I hope WotC will not complain if you manage to reprint the first two that were published under TSR' brand neither will ask you to take off the references to Greyhawk, like the latter ones.

    D&D basic set ??

One of the funny things about my current campaign is that my players asked to create characters using 3d6 in order. Usually I prefer to allow them to choose any order but this method is really growing on me. Not only it allows flawed heroes but also it incentives the players to make different...

    D&D basic set ??

You forgot to cite: RC's standard ability bonuses, short duration rounds (10 s), single weapon damage value, and short description of the planes of existence. It's sad WotC's 3e core books designer team failed to copy RC regarding mass combat, strongholds, dominions, including an overview of a...

    D&D basic set ??

Quasqueton, Most of the stuff you ask is already covered by the Rules Cyclopedia. In fact, I believe the RC is more complete than the three 3e core books, as it cover addtional stuff, such as control of the land and mass combats. It is not as close as detailed than the 3e core books, but there...

    D&D basic set ??

I am using the skill system, which I like better than 3e -- it is much less detailed but it works at any level, whereas I think d20 DCs are too high too low level characters and too low to high level. I plan to use weapon mastery rules as soon as the players are high level enough to use it. We...

    D&D basic set ??

I moved from 3e to the D&D Rules Cyclopedia and I am being very sucessful in convincing players that the RC is the best D&D version ever. It is concise (single volume), has about the degree of detail I enjoy, and it is easy to introduce house rules.

Take the GM out of the Equation- A 3e design philosophy

When playing with adults, the DM would make some calls not covered by the rules or in odd with them, as sometimes they are stupid and need to be bended. We don't spend our time in endless debates about the DM ruling because we have more stuff to do. If the DM became too arbritary or his calls...

    Libraries in your game

In my homebrew there are no public libraries available to the players. The main organized religion has some libraries but they are open to their clerics. A few people has personal libraries but access would depend of contact. A large private library is about 40-60 books.

Take the GM out of the Equation- A 3e design philosophy

I also realized quite early that removing power from the DM was one of the design goals of 3e. However, I thought that this was made to make easy to transport D&D to the computer environment, something that perhaps was Wizards objective before Hasbro sold the computer game division together with...

    RToEE good, but THIS good?

Agree. I actually thought it to be rather weak. I've read parts of it after I played with another DM and thought it to be full of crap. If I had brought it by myself I would likely give it for free to a friend if not trashed it just after reading it (I've done it several times).

    Afterlife in Dungeons and Dragons

In fact, afterlife in D&D sucks so much that more than one of my characters refused to worship any god. It is true that some clerics also refused to heal him, but he thought that accept healing would be selling himself cheap.

    ADnD 2nd ED VS. 3.5

Actually, you can. I returned to D&D with the 3rd edition, when I run a game from 1st to 7th level. Quite frankly, I didn't like it too much as it was too tactical and it replaced the myriad of AD&D rules with a myriad of rules exceptions in the guise of feats. Later, I played the Return of the...

D&D 4E How could 4E be more elegant?

I would like to see the skill system redone from the scracth. The old AD&D skill system lacked granularity and it was a mechanic in its own. However, considering that 1st edition AD&D was very close to its wargamming roots, it was serviceable. The current edition introduced a much more complex...
