Is the ELH a complete train wreck?

I checked ELH in my FLGS and I thought it quite humorous. I thought it was particularly funny to see DC to stand over clouds among other silliness. It is quite obvious that WotC idea of epic is so far from mine that I would find this book even more useless that the complete useless Deities and...

White Wolf viciously attacks everyone who roleplays for fun

Although I'm not a WW player (played Vampire once and hated it), I don't have a problem with the quotation. As a matter of fact, I pretty much agree with it. Concerning WW games, I agree with Nisarg that they are not rules light, however, it would be unfair to not recognize that their books are...

    Taking Care of RPG Books

Keep them in a dry place, as humidity will destroy your pages, and far from sunlight, which may destroy the pigments in some printing processes.

I agree with that. Much of my reluctance of giving really high levels to the fellowship members is not to spoil the desperate mood they were acting during the book. If you stat Aragorn and Gandalf as epic characters, you took much of the heroism of their deeds as their sacrifices became smaller.

Stats, how you come about it!

I've a friend that insist that we should roll like that and, although I believe he's saying it more for the fun. I've used in the early 80s with B/X D&D and it worked well. It wasn't good during the AD&D days as the bonuses were restricted to really high scores, but it would work in d20.

How many books do you own?

I gave a half hearted try about ten years ago but, before page 20, I decided it wasn't worthy of reading it. I've never heard good reviews of it from people that are actually avid readers of fantasy literature.

Stats, how you come about it!

I usually allow then to roll two sets of six stats by the standard method and choose one. However, points are the best method a DM has to force his view regarding stats. I believe that 28 is about right, 25 would fit a low powered campaign, 32 would be a high powered, whereas 36 I believe is...

You're right, but the silliness of the D&D hit point system is that you don't need an actual strike to loose hit points. A well done dodge in D&D would be represented as a hit point loss. Check the rules.

You're missing the fact that hit points don't only represent actual physical damage. It will sounds stupid (well, I think it is), especially watching it in the movie, but, in D&D terms, Boromir was loosing hit points during the whole encounter (even being not hit by any of the orcs). The arrows...

How many books do you own?

Currently, only two, as I ditched most of my 3.0 material (just kept the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer) and I only brought the 3.5 Players' Handbook. If, by some miracle, I find some time to play I would probably get a few more.

Yours is not a bad reasoning. However, except for the Balrog confrontation, Gandalf doesn't appears to be able to produce magic in the same rate of a high level D&D wizard. I wonder if the fire ring he uses wouldn't protect him entirely from fire based attacks, denying the Balrog of his best...

Except for Sauron, I haven't found any reason to use epic rules in any character from The Lord of the Rings. As far as I can remember (I've read it about 15 years ago), there are only two instances where high levels should be assumed to justify the feats performed: Gandalf fighting the Balrog...

    Pyramids of the dead

D&D experience system was designed to promote combat, and thus tactical encounters and more miniatures sales. Even if I am exaggerating a little bit (although I don't think so), the design objectives was to pace character advancement under the rules. The designers never considered using it as a...

My problem with the "standard" level of magic

I've the same thoughts over and over. Here is some of my solutions: - PCs are very rare individuals, parties of individuals such as they are sort of legendary; - Money and treasure in general is about ten times less than recommended (and still is too much); - Magical items are much rarer than...

What is a setting book? [RANT]

I agree with the rant. It appears to me that most setting books try to appeal a wider audience by introducing new rules that, according to the authors, can be used in a different campaign. It is understandable, check the reviews of setting books that do not include many new rules, such as the...

Dungeon Magazine: New Format, New Subscription Price

Asmo, Erik just answered that you're not getting 114 but probably 115 if not 116. That's something you should ask Paizo's customer service. Finally, I agree with you that the overseas shipping is very expensive. I can only guess that they are sending the books trough airmail service.
