    Fantasy dice game, card game?

You can also find Tonk rules here. The game was quite interesting in the novels, but I never tried the rules.

What tricks do you use to cut down on NPC prep time?

I write them to be dramatically correct, not by the book. I am always impressed how some people, such as John Cooper, care so much about the correctness of the stat block. I may admire his work but I don't think it is necessary. I don't care much about the stats as long as they sound good for my...

Do you allow murder within the party?

I let the players do whatever they want, including killing themselves. However, I hope they will not complain if some authority begins an investigation.

Differences in powergaming in 1st/2nd and 3.0/3.5

No offense taken. I should know better not to trust the computer's spelling checker. Now that I realize the problem was kind of funny to re-read some passages.

Differences in powergaming in 1st/2nd and 3.0/3.5

Sadrik is on the spot. When playing AD&D, the players have to trust their DM will reasonably use the rules or wing when necessary in order that all have fun. However, d20 D&D allow a lot of power in character building that, by the rules, take a lot of power from the DM. In my experience, to have...

    Age of Worms H/C - unlikely :(

It is just a change of consumer expectations. I was called crazy by my friends when I gave up buying comics and limited my purchases to TPs in 1993. Today I am a regular consumer. Fact is magazines sales in general are being eroded by the Internet and other media. Offering the same contents in...

What Do Your Players Think of Splatbooks?

I guess I have a strange mentality like Razz was mentioned as the last game I played was a 3.0 game with all 3.0 splatbooks and I definitely think they have a lot of broken material. Never looked at the 3.5 material. Perhaps they got better, I wouldn't know, I just don't have much hope.

    Age of Worms H/C - unlikely :(

Merric, In the other hand, comic book publishers have been milking money from monthly magazines compilations for years. They reach customers like me who don't buy magazines (comics or gaming ones) but purchase compilations. Even better, I know quite a few that buy monthly titles and a few...

Difference between PC & Console gaming

I am writing at my old Mac laptop (iBook G3 600) and I use a PS2 for gaming. It is a very satisfying setup. Still, it is time to upgrade once more. I plan to buy a new console next month, I am tending to the X360 but I might go with a Wii, depending on the online capabilities of each system -- I...

Can novels make or break a setting for you?

I would suggest your friend to move from commissioned game based novels to author created novels. There are quite a many settings based on fantasy books that are quite good. I can recommend the Dying Earth, Black Company or Game of Thrones, the last two being d20 books. However, novels based on...

    Cardboard Counters for minis?

In the only occasion I played with a battle map, we used counters. It feels more confortable than minis if you have a background in wargaming and it is definitely the way to go if you have to carry them anywhere. Minis are nice but bulky.

Temple of the Frog d20 from WotC?

Even if Dave Arneson has the rights, it would be in his best interest to have his setting promoted by WotC. Perhaps he allow them to update Temple of the Frog.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

I checked out the free version last month and I almost brought the boxed set. However, I decided to give a pass and wait to the updated full version soon to be published by the Trolls. BTW, do you have any news regarding the revision?

    RPG Settings

In the other hand, if I wanted to run a game in the Realms I would stick with the old grey box, which I found to be very good. However, this would render many of the new books inconsistent with the setting I am running. Without metaplots, new books would be as useful as the old ones. Ronaldo

Reports and News from D&D XP

Actually, according to Erik Mona and other insiders, the 3e softback was a good seller. Problem is, WotC is afraid of having more than two settings being supported at any time, especially because Forgotten Realms absorbed so much of Greyhawk to be in line with D&D that turned hard to sell the...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

My plan is to keep the honor point and start tracking them to the ocidental characters to measure how they are seem by the oriental people. I was planing to jettison only the NWP, as I don't think they are particularly well designed and I would need some adaptation to give them to the western...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

I agree. I am glad you liked the concept too. I was thinking about taking out the NWP system and I was wondering if this move wouldn't hurt the balance of the Oriental Adventures characters. However, I downloaded your C&C file and, although I only quickly read it, sounds pretty good. The...

    RPG Settings

u I don't like the concept. My first experience with a setting was the World of Greyhawk boxed set and I liked the concept of showing a world frozen in one moment of time. Any developments were up to the DM, as the adventures, even the epic ones, such as The Queen of Spiders, did not...

    RPG Settings

Metaplots is one of the main reasons why I don't like published settings. I know that there are people who are thrilled following the metaplot in each new supplement being published. Me, I would rather read a good novel.
