Why wouldn't an intelligent monster make use of currency? Ogres, orcs and other such creatures live together in communities... so it makes perfect sense that there would be orc blacksmiths and oger leatherworkers to make their weapons and armor. As long as a creature can act reasonably well...

If you are looking to make teleporation travel difficult, but still allow creatures like the Blink Dog consider the following. Perhapse the Astral environment isnt immediately deadly, but long term exposure is. This may only effect creatures not native to the environment. Even short range...

The spells would have to be learned independently (for a sorcerer it would require two spell slots). Only the energy substitution feat would allow a caster to swap energy types on a spell he already had

Though I have no problem with wizards (or sorcerers) swaping energy types when they first learn a spell I'd be very cautious about allowing a wizard to create whatever spells they chose.

I'm not a big fan of magic items that are just +X abilities, and the idea of items that add +'s to mental stats (without drawbacks) seems very strange to me. What I dont like is when it seems that most of a characters power comes from his "bling" then from himself.

That sounds like a great way to end a campaing or retire a character. Think 13th warrior or some such...

I'm glad they reprinted it... I've been looking for a copy for the last year or so (after I read a buds). Its one of the better WotC books produced, and the section about the path to the dark side is far superior to anything found in the BoVD. Though I dont own any other Star Wars books I do...

I restrict classes to what makes sense within a given setting. For my usual setting (a high middle ages setting modeled after europe during the crusades) I restrict options to keep the historical feel... no warforged, no monster PCs, number of elves and dwarves restricted. My Orental campaing...
