D&D Adventurer's League vs. Pathfinder Society

The math a level 1 is straight up broken. A 10-con rogue gains more HP (percentage wise) between levels 1 and 3 than he does between levels 10 and 20. Luckily, AL has a really nice solution for this, which is adventures designed for level 1 & 2 players only, and all of the ones I've played have...

D&D Adventurer's League vs. Pathfinder Society

This varies quite a bit by the type of AL content you're playing. A party of whatever can generally muddle through adventures-formerly-known-as-expeditions, but if your party can't chew to double its size in monster HP in an hour, you're not going to complete an Epic. And I don't have personal...

    Necromancy and AL

I'm not sure why you think that the AL needs a way to track that. You have another option: choose a different spell. The AL owes you nothing.

    Necromancy and AL

To be fair, neither is walking into a house and murdering all of the inhabitants, which is what 90% of adventures are. It's just that usually, from the PCs' perspective, their actions are justified.

    Necromancy and AL

Woah woah woah, let's not jump to judgement here. What if he only animates evil people and makes them do good deeds as punishment for their crimes? What if his necromantic spells are simply research as he tries to cure some dread Faerûnian disease? As a lawful good necromancer, maybe he's...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the stat system biased against front-liners?

This a bit of an oversimplification; it's like first-world want versus third-world want. Melee combatants want high Dex, Wis and Con regardless of class because they're usually neck-deep in bad guys and need offense as well as balanced saving throws. Ranged casters want high con because on the...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the stat system biased against front-liners?

This is an awesome analysis and I agree 100%. Another great solution to this problem is how stats work in Pillars of Eternity: it replaces physical stats with more abstract ones that would be useful to any class, e.g. "Might" is how all classes increase damage, "Intellect" increase AoE abilities...

Things that might be helpful to consider including in the CoS players guide

Any rule that requires players to lug a huge, heavy book around to prove they're allowed an option is a bad one. If no one has access to the official rules, the DM should just wing it. It's not going to hurt anyone.

Release Date for S4 Player's Guide?

Has the release date for the Player's Guide for S4 been announced? I'm looking to start a Death House game pretty soon that goes into Curse of Strahd and just want to know if I should wait for it or not.

DMs Guild Pay What You Want on the DMs Guild - An Analysis and Explanation

I'm curious how much alphabetical order has contributed to the author's success. There's a reason Diego Bastet keeps changing his titles to include more pound signs and digits. I put out an experimental PWYW piece as well: Aarakocra Subrace: The Earthbound. Interestingly I've got: 152...

Build-wise, what's far too common in the AL?

Tables I've played at have been lousy with fighters, bards, warlocks and to a lesser extent sorcerers.

D&D 5E (2014) Favorite "Against the Grain" builds that are still effective

If I had to guess what the next FotM would be, I'd guess Rogue + Booming Blade combos, doubling up on cantrip damage and sneak attack, while not losing out on extra attacks like most other weapon classes do.

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e] Fighter/Warlock Arcane Archer Concept

Looks pretty good. I would consider Thunderclap or Sword Burst over Chill Touch. At-will AOE can be nice to have.

    Death House and Milestone Rules

Agreed. Milestones encourage completing tasks, XP encourages killing things dead. In the end it's personal preference. I don't think one could declare either approach objectively better.

    Death House and Milestone Rules

This hypothetical adventure would have to put the milestones in specific places as death house does. Then the DM could say, "you've reach milestones A, B and C, but didn't get to D, so log three milestones on your character sheet." This would take 15s or so. In your example, the DM would have...

[SPOILERS] Some thoughts on the Author Only mods from Winter Fantasy

I realized after posting this that "the 1%" has a negative connotation around the Internet right now, so to clarify: I would totally try and be in that 1%. Author-run adventures were super-popular when we did them in LA (one player even asked me to sign his copy of the mod 0.o). While I think...

[SPOILERS] Some thoughts on the Author Only mods from Winter Fantasy

Wow! That's only $5 less that four days of gaming at our west-coast megacon. I heard you guys did things differently on the east coast, but that on top of an an entry fee is a bit of sticker shock. But given that only 1% of players could actually fit at those tables, I guess pricing for the 1%...

The Fonts of D&D 5th Edition

If you're looking for fonts, there was a great post on /r/unearthedarcana listing them. In general, if you're posting to DM's Guild, WotC's probably not going to sue you for trade dress violations. If you're starting the next edition of Pathfinder, they might.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Has D&D, and 5e in Particular, Gone Down the Road of Ubiquitous Magic?

https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/strawman I didn't say no example of risk is a valid example, your conclusion is a (https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/false-cause). I claim that the Wild Mage is poorly designed, and as a result its lack of popularity does not indicates that players don't want...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Has D&D, and 5e in Particular, Gone Down the Road of Ubiquitous Magic?

It'd be cool to show some examples of how magic can be both ubiquitous and special using these things.
