Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

That has been my experience, too. There are numerous exceptions, but it's true more often than not.

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

My focus is on getting a final, delivered project that is everything that it promised to be. I'm not really that interested in the feeling that I helped it come about. When it comes to software projects, my experience over the years has been very disappointing. In addition to the high failure...

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

That's what WotC and Hasbro are gambling on with their primary focus on D&D shifting to use of the IP outside of tabletop rpgs. I'm doubtful that they will find a lot of success with it, but only time will tell.

Cultural Appropriation in role-playing games (draft)

I spent many years in cultural anthropology grad school in the late 80s. The whole "cultural appropriation" thing was just starting to gain some traction back then, and I remember having a lot of classroom discussions about it. My ex-wife (we were married at the time) was a sociology graduate...

RPG Evolution: Will LEGO Ever Replace Miniatures?

It's just too expensive for me to get onboard with using Legos in any significant way in a tabletop rpg. Last year I decided to put together a generic lego set for my grandsons to play with when they visited us. I spent about 6 months digging deep into Lego trading networks, obscure auctions...

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

If they can do it without failing to deliver on backed Kickstarter projects or nearly putting themselves out of business (ex. Chaosium), go for it. More power to them. The recent track record for videogames, MMOs, and movies based on tabletop rpgs isn't good, but someone could turn that around...

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

Two successes from the largest rpg company doesn't really mean that it's a good idea for most tabletop rpg companies to go the software (particularly MMO) route. There have been many, many more failures than successes over the years.

    Hawk the Slayer sequel

    That's a bad idea.

    Hawk the Slayer sequel

    That's just wrong.

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

This is one of the reasons that I NEVER back software projects on Kickstarter. They fail, more often than not. Tabletop RPG companies need to quit trying to get into the MMO market. These days, I really only back rpg Kickstarter projects where the writer/designer has essentially finished...

Frog God Games Offers Goodwill Compensation For Centre Stage Miniatures' Failed Kickstarters

That is a very professional and kind act. Kudos to them!

    Is the "Conpocalypse" Nigh?

The magic number is going to vary from convention to convention, of course, based on a number of factors. I quit attending Dallas ComicCon (and related events) because the convention center they were using was far too small and poorly designed for the crowds they were getting. 10,000 attendees...

    Is the "Conpocalypse" Nigh?

North Texas RPG Con is a good one, and I'm grateful to have it in the Metroplex. I attended GaryCon once a few years ago and really enjoyed it, but I can't afford to do that very often. NTRPG is right in my backyard, and is well worth attending.

    Is the "Conpocalypse" Nigh?

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

    Is the "Conpocalypse" Nigh?

One of the problems I have noticed at some of the general conventions I have been to in the last several years is congestion problems caused by cosplayers. I'm not running down cosplayers at all (I like seeing their costumes), but when the dealers room and other areas are already congested, it...

    Is the "Conpocalypse" Nigh?

Maybe you shouldn't be allowed into any of the areas without a badge, then.

    Is the "Conpocalypse" Nigh?

These days I only go to conventions that are focused on one hobby, or one aspect of a hobby. Even then, some of them are getting too big to be fun anymore.

Where can I get fantasy AGE? I could have SWORN it came out already but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I'm waiting for the print copy, too. The price of the PDF is ridiculous. Unless, of course, I forget about the game and spend the money on something else. That happens a lot when game products come out in PDF form first and get a lot of press but there is quite a bit less press when the print...

    DriveThruRPG Hacked

This is why I have started to use prepaid credit cards for online purchases. I just refill them when they get low.
