Pathfinder 1E May there be non-evil societies of always evil races? What would they be like?

To me, if players are extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the world in which they are playing, you lose some of the ability to use mystery and surprise as part of the game experience. I don't like running games that are liked souped-up versions of video games and MMOs, where casting a...

Pathfinder 1E May there be non-evil societies of always evil races? What would they be like?

I'm a big fan of your Kaidan setting. I don't usually buy PDFs of anything (don't like 'em), but I did buy the Kaidan ones, and have enjoyed them.

Pathfinder 1E May there be non-evil societies of always evil races? What would they be like?

You don't have to explain it to the players ahead of time. You tell them what they know at the time the campaign starts. Through the course of the campaign you have them discover new "truths," or at least different interpretations of the world. Their characters may find themselves...

Pathfinder 1E May there be non-evil societies of always evil races? What would they be like?

That's the way they designed it, but it's not the way I run it when I'm GMing. I don't use any of the standard settings (ex. Golarion) - I make up my own, with it's own rules. Even if I did, though, I would ignore the cosmic "good vs. evil" stuff, because it just seems silly and overly...

Pathfinder 1E How to treat an Irish Blackthorn? (shillelagh)

"Club" is an extremely generic term that can be applied to weapons with a wide variety of sizes, weights, and materials. If you really get down to it, a mace is a type of "club." With a blackthorn walking stick, many shillelaghs (which come in many lengths and sizes), and any cane weapon...

Pathfinder 1E How to treat an Irish Blackthorn? (shillelagh)

In reality, a person with a steak knife could kill a person of similar strength and health who has a longsword, under the right circumstances. A lot depends on skill level, ability to move around, initial distance between the fighters, differences in arm length, how the weapon is used...

Pathfinder 1E Profession farmer proficiencies homebrew.

In reality, a lot of weapons from around the world (including Europe) had their origins as farming tools. In Europe, there were many times (in many countries and regions) where they rounded up peasants to use as additional combatants in battles. It wasn't that uncommon to see commoners...

    Pathfinder 1E Replacing dragons

You could just pick the mechanics of one of the more powerful Pathfinder species and adjust the power level according to the age of the individual dragon. If you run a module that contains a dragon character, just adjust the age of your generic dragon to fit the power level of the one in that...

Pathfinder 1E Re: Unpleasant experience on local regional Pathfinder Society site (no complaining, tho'- see body!)

That's a big problem in a lot of areas, unfortunately, even big urban ones. It gets even tougher if you try to find people who can/will meet for regular games and are also into actual roleplaying. In my area, it's tough to find people who will play anything other than Pathfinder and (maybe)...

Pathfinder 1E Re: Unpleasant experience on local regional Pathfinder Society site (no complaining, tho'- see body!)

Most discussion boards don't focus on IC posts, so those tend to get ignored. I don't respond to them, but I'm not hostile towards them - I just prefer to keep my roleplaying in-game. There are some boards where posting IC is the norm, but for the most part it isn't that common. I love the...

Pathfinder 1E May there be non-evil societies of always evil races? What would they be like?

When I GM, no entire species is "evil." An individual may be of any alignment, when I even bother to use alignment. Some cultures have practices that may seem "evil" to characters from other cultures, but that doesn't mean they are "evil" in some cosmic sense.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the 5e Monster Manual the best MM ever?

That's what surprises me so much. I can't see how it got past their basic quality control mechanisms.

D&D 5E (2014) Everyone Starts at First Level

A player could choose to play the group's donkey (literally), torchbearer, or anything else and still have fun in my campaigns. (S)he could also garner just as much XP as the other player characters, because I reward creativity, actual roleplaying (not just being chatty), etc. Some people...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the 5e Monster Manual the best MM ever?

I don't get offended. I was shocked and dismayed by the halfling, though. What the *#&@( were they thinking?

Pathfinder 1E Advanced Class Guide opinions?

I'm not fond of the alchemist portion of the Investigator class, but I can understand while they put it in there. To be honest, I would like to see a primarily skills-based class that has nothing to do with magic of any sort. The Investigator comes closest to that, but I would like to see...

Chill RPG 3rd Edition Coming.... for real this time....

At $50 for a print edition, that's a little too high for me. I'll wait until it hits the secondary market.

D&D 5E (2014) Everyone Starts at First Level

I'm the opposite. I have no interest in playing in a game where characters can't die. That takes away the challenge.

D&D 5E (2014) Everyone Starts at First Level

It may not make sense to you, but it does to other people. The modern obsession with "balance" between classes has never made sense to me, but a lot of people are very concerned with it. That doesn't make either of us wrong.

D&D 5E (2014) Everyone Starts at First Level

That's not a house rule. It has been the default since the early days of D&D, when I started playing. Player enjoyment of a game is rule #1. Keeping the game fun for everyone is not incompatible with having everyone start at first level, though. A good DM can keep the game fun for everyone...
