The Orville Season Two - Thoughts?

I never bought the claim in the Star Trek universe that the Federation had evolved beyond money, and I don't buy it here. (Have we heard of this before on The Orville?) Replicator technology makes most resource shortages disappear, but it's still damned efficient to have a means of tracking the...

The Orville Season Two - Thoughts?

They fooled me - I did not recognize the returning actress (understandably). The final gesture (letting Teleya go) was predictable, but how they got to that point was very good. Gordon was quite in character. Humor should emerge from the natural behavior of the characters, and this is an...

The Orville Season Two - Thoughts?

A fairly standard alienated daughter story done pretty well. They should have put a little more thought into the visuals. Xelayan architecture shouldn't have thin vertical hoops. The buildings should be squat or at least solid towers. Square-cube law is a thing. I also would have put fishing...

AL Thor in Dwarf form. Help please!

Mostly agree, including the later amendment, BookBarbarian. Attributes, Warcaster, Shield Master, then whatever. You have plenty of opportunity to learn as you go, bkcrosson, so don't overthink it.

AL Thor in Dwarf form. Help please!

Yes, that is new this season. No one walks away from an adventure with a magic item (a major immersion gripe). Instead, everyone earns "Treasure Points", and everyone unlocks the right to purchase (with TP) the items found in the adventure. A few adventures unlock the dwarven thrower, but you...

AL Thor in Dwarf form. Help please!

Well, you also only do half damage if they save. I would bump charisma. Additionally, Tier 4 is only a few games. Bump charisma early, and it will matter for a long time. BookBarbarian is right about cantrips being generally better than the Dwarven Thrower, but flavor is also a thing.

AL Thor in Dwarf form. Help please!

Druids and beastmaster rangers can also fly, either by wildshape or on the back of a beast. I assume you actually plan to play the character up to that level in AL. That will take a while (or do lots of judging for the XP rewards). [I know they don't call it "XP" anymore.] As you level, you...

    IN REMEMBRANCE--2019 AD

Harold Brown has died at 91. He was president of Caltech and Jimmy Carter's Secretary of Defense.

Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)

I found the episode forced and unconvincing. Somehow, ancient humans managed to damage and pry open a Dalek casing using microwave energy that should be easily available to any of the advanced civilizations that were thwarted by Dalek durability thereafter. Oh, and dismembering a Dalek doesn't...

Why is everything twice as big?

In D&D, it is Procrustes' bed that must be stretched or shrunk.

    Timeless - the Finale

Timeless was unusual with the concept for its pilot episode, which was to make sure the Hindenburg explodes. Most of these time-travel shows have the characters working to keep good events from being changed, not bad. When a show like Dr. Who or Star Trek (City on the Edge of Forever) has...

RPGSports Round 1 Marred by Technical Problems and Bad DM Calls

Not just in 1E; that's approximately how it's always been. (Although, I've missed the last few years of D&D Open since it moved from GenCon to Origins.)

Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)

I definitely liked it better than that, but the plot holes were many. Gripes first: Pregnant bloke is an annoying progressive trope such as the BBC loves. As you say, it doesn't survive inspection. Two idiotball maneuvers to set up the situation, one by the doctor and the other by The Doctor...

    Diagonal movement into difficult terrain?

A normal diagonal is 1.5 squares. The 5/10 convention is just to round that to integers. A difficult diagonal is 3 squares (15 ft). That is regardless of whether you've already covered an even or odd number of normal diagonals, which are tracked separately. DMMike is showing you the correct chart.

[AL] Are Season 8's New Rules an Improvement?

I think the real reason for the changes is that the system described in Xanathar's Guide was mandated from above. The admins have very little wiggle room, but can't say so. (Hard evidence for this is slight, so I may certainly be wrong.) I voted "no", but there are some small benefits to the...

Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)

I doubt we'll see him again. I think the hotel owner who wants to be the American president was an unflattering caricature of the current American president who is a hotel owner. Nyssa, perhaps? The Master had stolen her father's body. But, it was a great performance. Too often, the companions...

Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)

A rather clumsy caricature of current politics. Not afraid of spiders, so the show was emotionally dull. Maybe the writer or director is? We didn't get the usual slow reveal that we usually get, delayed until one to three victims have met a sticky, screaming end. Puzzled by the Doctor's...

    Hopefully simple Ritual Caster question

This is in the context of Adventurer's League, so not subject to DM discretion. There's a small chance of finding such a scroll in an adventure. Scribing scrolls looks to be prohibitive in terms of downtime and reduced gold cost. Just buy the scrolls, although even that option isn't extremely...

Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)

We need occasional Black Orchid-style historicals. This one was a bit heavy-handed on the sociology, but I expected that going in. I enjoyed seeing Krasko (who couldn't do violence against people) use essentially the Doctor's methods against her - clever little things that disrupt. Well...
