D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

What my group ran into was one of them would go down in range of Spirit Guardians, so if their turn came up before they could be healed, automatic failed death save. If it comes up after, you can't just light heal them back up, because you have to take into account the Spirit Guardians damage...

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

I mean, it's not like Clerics haven't had strong damaging spells in the past (Blade Barrier was always a favorite of mine), and some Priests have had access to powerful Wizard spells since 2e, but Spirit Guardians is kind of a standout, especially if you compare it to Spirit Shroud. I guess if...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

I like the entire Enterprise crew in SNW, but M'Benga is definitely a standout. His actor's charisma almost makes me forget the fact that the character has a hazy moral code and has actually gotten away with murder (but hey, he's far from the only Trek hero who has).

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

It was a + thread when I made it. EDIT: it's against the site rules to discuss it, but it's explained on post #93.

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Where does it say the Deck is immune to divinations? I've heard people claim this before, but at least as presented in the 1e DMG, nothing is said about it. I guess there's an argument for later editions when it's classified as a "minor artifact". Now again, if the DM wants to rule that it is...

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

Well, Aid provides "healing" in a roundabout way with a single target Bless, so while I don't think it's a fantastic spell, it does add to the party's staying power. The other day I found myself having an old man moment with my players about how woeful the Cleric spell list used to be. "Back...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I guess I'd try to find out what about Eberron they really like that Greyhawk can't produce. Which should be interesting, because Greyhawk is basically kitchen sink fantasy at it's finest- you got everything from scimitars that fly around like the Glaive from Krull, giant robots (The Mighty...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I don't. I live in a cramped apartment that has no room for a group of gamers, so I have to game elsewhere.

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

It had to do with the Balance card from the Deck of Many Things. I knew the card existed from previous encounters (he was one of those DM's who loved using the Deck, no matter how many times it blew up in his face, and got irritated when players got "too powerful" as a result). So since I'd...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I am planning to address it, the next time we're all at the table. I didn't want to interrupt the flow of the game with a "actually that's wrong, but I'm ok with it" moment. I don't know why, but when stuff like that happens, a player gets a rule wrong or thinks they can do something they...

    Hit points as luck

In retrospect, my headcanon is that Gary was tired of people asking how 1 sword strike can take down a 1st-level Fighter but it takes 5 to take down a 5th level one, which also makes zero sense if hit points are "meat". A comic book, of all things, I read back in the 90's explained this as high...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

You do see the Farragut's bridge in the scene where Kirk and Spock are doing the mindmeld thing, but it is weird that the Farragut's Captain has no speaking lines whatsoever!

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

Man, I wish I could go back in time! I had DM's insist I must find all spells, which is why I exclusively played specialists in 2e (who do automatically get new spells)! I'd love to shove that text under their noses, lol. Then again, these were the same DM's who would probably assign me a...

Yeah, the whole reason she's on board is the Enterprise crew is fun! "Oh you're trying to steal a starship? Deal me in!"

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Yeah, I think the problem just comes down to the fact that the game rarely shows you the upsides of alignment, only the reverse. And even things that could be upsides, might not be. For example, in a dungeon, you come across an intelligent magical sword. Great! But...nobody is compatible...

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

How strange. It must be one of those house rules I picked up without realizing it. In a game I had a Magic-User who leveled up and got 2nd levels spells without having the opportunity to learn any, and the DM said I could memorize a 1st level spell using the 2nd level slot. But checking the...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

A DM is essential. But so are players. I have a lot of free time and would love to DM more, but like just happened Wednesday, a player whose house we game at wasn't feeling well, so there was no game. While I have admitted that I've never particularly liked the idea of ceding authority to a...

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

You couldn't prepare a lower level spell in a higher level slot? It's been awhile, but I thought you could, if you wanted to. Also as far as 2nd level goes, I always prepared Aid there.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

So apparently this episode was the original finale, as the series was planned to end with season 3, if what I read is correct. Maybe that's why it feels so rushed, trying to wrap up as much stuff as possible. Viewed from that lens, I can forgive it's faults. It's flawed, but no "These Are The...
