    I'm Lovin' Weight Loss

Also remember that 2000 calories is the approximate need to maintain a human body of about 160-170 pounds. *Maintain*. If you weigh 200-300 pounds, 2000 calories is considerably under your need for maintaining that size, and so you'll loose weight even without exercise. Bullgrit

What economic class do you fall into?

My whole branch of this discussion was because of this distinction: That's someone, not me, defining the nomenclature differently based on location -- in the U.K., rich = middle class, title = upper class, compared to in the U.S., moderate income = middle class, rich = upper class. I just...

What economic class do you fall into?

But we/I was discussing economic class. A celebrity millionaire isn't considered in a higher economic class than a CEO millionaire. They're both considered upper class. Bill Gates is not old money upper class, but he's not considered a different economic class than an old money Rockefeller...

What economic class do you fall into?

Oh, I know of it -- the *historical* system -- but I guess I've just been ignorant that the historical class system is still in use. That a historical/family title actually carries any real weight in the 21st century. I mean, it's sort of like knowing you've always had royalty, but then learning...

What economic class do you fall into?

Yes, I know. I completely understand that. I was referring to the title that goes with owning land in the U.K. From what y'all have been saying, the title, (like from land ownership), puts one into a higher class even if one's economic income is identical to, (or even lower than), someone...

What economic class do you fall into?

Interesting contrast. Here in the U.S., many 3rd generation farmers/ranchers could own land ten times that size and be considered completely middle class. Heck, they might even be low economic class with regards to their income. Granted, they may own several tractors worth $100,000 to work that...

What economic class do you fall into?

It seems to have been misread, but I specifically said we own the land our home is built on: Bullgrit

What economic class do you fall into?

By owning land, do you mean some major parcel, like an estate or something? Or any land? I own the land my home is on, (about a quarter acre), as do most U.S. homeowners. My grandparents owned a full farm, which passed to my father and his siblings -- they sold it and I inherited my father's...

What economic class do you fall into?

What economic class would you rank yourself. The poll is anonymous in the hope of honesty -- no shame, no brag. Do you have friends or family in a different class? Have you ever had problems with friends or family because of a difference in economic class? Bullgrit

Is Conspicuous Consumption back in fashion?

The humans in my family drink tap water, (through the fridge door). We use bottled water when the convenience of a bottle is necessary. And our bottled water supply is nothing special, definitely not Evian-like. We don't give our dog "people food" for any reason because we know from past...

Is Conspicuous Consumption back in fashion?

That makes no sense at all to me. I don't know of anyone who would act like that. Bullgrit

Even a bad MMA fighter is probably more than you can handle

I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and some lower level training in Karate and Jui Jitsu. It was all many years ago, and though much of the actions are ingrained in me from so much repetition during the training and practice, (like riding a bike?), such that I believe I could defend myself...

    Iconic states and nations

For the non-U.S. ENWorlders: What are the "iconic" states of the United States? I'm not meaning how many states can you name, but what states stand out in your mind as immediately recognizable as part of the U.S. As an example, when I think of Canada, I think Quebec and Ontario. I know there...

    People are getting older!

I just heard the DJ on the radio mention that today is Pat Benatar's birthday. She's 61. Pat Benatar is 61 year old !? Holy crap! Her "You Better Run" was the second video aired on MTV. Bullgrit

Are you a cold person or a hot person?

I've been in Arizona during the week of July 4th. Temps got above 110F during the day, and to my absolute amazement was 101 at 11:00 at night, (as shown on the late news). I can say from experience, 110F dry is much more comfortable than 85F humid. Yes, dry 110F it is HOT, but it's not...

Summer, winter, aphelion, perihelion, temperture, and more

Branching off from the Canada is as cold as Mars discussion: [Note: All season mentions here are relative to the northern hemisphere -- where all sane people live :-P ] It boggles me how in the winter, Earth is more than 3 million -- MILLIONS -- miles closer to the Sun than it is in the summer...

Are you a cold person or a hot person?

I prefer hot showers. I try to take "cooler" showers during the winter because hot showers in cold months make my skin itch. But my minimum temp shower is still hotter than my wife's hottest temp shower. Bullgrit
