    D&D 5E (2014) Rant About Patience

People excited about 5e is a bad thing. Gotcha. It would be much worse for WotC if people didn't care.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

I'm gonna call shenanigans on this unless you can give me at least the Planescape book that talks about all that (don't even have to give me a page). I've been running Planescape for years and years, and that is simply not accurate. There's no great magic that detects some good was done here...

    D&D 5E (2014) So, 5e OGL

Personally I would say this. Pathfinder owes its success to the OGL. Without it, I don't think it would be where it is right now. Paizo does not owe its success to the OGL. Without it, I believe they would have still found success. That's where I would stand. I don't know if you would agree...

    D&D 5E (2014) So, 5e OGL

I think Mistwell is pretty clearly saying that he believes that Paizo would have done just as well without an OGL ever existing in the first place. In other words without Pathfinder as we know it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Meld into Stone - easy long rests mid-dungeon?

Not sure if people missed this, but you can't cast it on others. Compare the text of meld to stone with the text of invisibility, and it is obvious that meld into stone can only be cast on yourself. So, the entire party will need to be able to cast the spell or they'll need their own 8 hour...

    D&D 5E (2014) So, 5e OGL

There are actually boatloads of fanmade Magic sets that people distribute, print, and play with. MTG Salvation has a forum dedicated to this.

    D&D 5E (2014) Battlemats?

I use ToTM for pretty much every RPG I play except D&D for what its worth. Sometimes I sketch out a general idea of what the area looks like, but usually I don't even need to do that.

    D&D 5E (2014) So, 5e OGL

I'm not sure how you can say that with all the M:tG card generators, fan created card websites, and spoiler sites. Yes, there was that kerfuffle with MTGSalvation years ago, but I think that WotC lets them do their thing now? Honestly, I can't see any indication that WotC has anything against...

    D&D 5E (2014) Battlemats?

For me the whole point of playing D&D as opposed to other RPGs is that I get to pull out my miniature collection, so YES! I've got a nice vinyl Chessex battlemat with hexes on one side and squares on the other that is just wonderful to use, and I've got a carrying case for my miniatures full of...

D&D 5E (2014) (More) ruminations on the future of D&D

So are you speaking of video games as a medium, or just your particular experiences with individual games? Because that statement is obviously untrue of the medium itself. And, while I'm sure uncreative video games can be found and listed, does that matter since surely not all books are...

D&D 5E (2014) Question about "on hit" reactions

FYI in case you don't know... damage doesn't go on the stack anymore. :(

Why do D&D players put such an emphasis on rules and tactics?

I play a lot of different RPGs, and each one gets me something different. What I love about D&D is the combat. The miniatures (and I own a lot!), the tactical movement, the list of possible actions and spells that you have to go over and plan for, and especially the magic equipment that can be...

Pathfinder 1E Holy heck! There's a guy STUPID enough to ask for pirated materials on the Pathfinder FACEBOOK PAGE!!!!

I realize that there are many countries with distinct copyright and theft laws. I will point out, however, that the U.S does have precedence in Dowling v. United States where the Supreme Court ruled that copyright infringement is not stealing.

Gaming group in need of new game

Risk Legacy is an outstanding game for a consistent group to play over weeks. Very highly recommended to anyone interested.

Gaming group in need of new game

Boardgames! Yes! There are so many options available that I think we'll need some more information. If you want something D&D-like, you could go with Talisman or Descent. If you like the cooperative aspect of D&D, you should look up: Pandemic, Forbidden Desert, Arkham Horror, Hanabi, and many...

    D&D 5E (2014) Unfortunate Wording

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 2e I recall magic item crafting to be: The DM will make something up, but it should involve a quest involving impossible materials and probably multiple sessions. Then they would cast Permanency and lose a point of Constitution forever.

D&D 5E (2014) (More) ruminations on the future of D&D

I'm not talking about video games. I mean stuff like PbP, virtual tabletops, Skype, Google Hangouts, and other forms of electronic play. I'm also not talking about "freeform" roleplaying (in case anyone thinks I am) because lets pretend has been going on since time immemorial. There's no doubt...

D&D 5E (2014) (More) ruminations on the future of D&D

So are we talking about the industry then? Because there are a lot of free options that people are taking advantage of, including lots of story games and less strictly gamist rules that most ENWorlders would really reference. There are definitely millions of roleplayers out there. I don't see...

D&D 5E (2014) (More) ruminations on the future of D&D

This topic confuses me. Board gaming has never been as popular as it is today. I see a constant swarm of new players approaching roleplaying games, and indeed a vast array not only of options as far as roleplaying game systems, but a breadth of options as far as what encompasses tabletop...

    The Dumbing Down of RPGs

You absolutely couldn't be more wrong, and you really shouldn't try to analyze an entire RPG without actually reading the rules. Actually, you shouldn't try to analyze an entire RPG system without playing the game, but asking that would probably be asking too much. EDIT: If you're at DragonCon...
