D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters: Defining Our Terms

Environments is too complicated for my tastes. Monster types are a mess. 4e made a huge improvement with the split between origin and body form. Unfortunately they didn't ask that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Feats, Specialties, and Backgrounds

I agree with most of what you said, but I still think there is a difference between Taunt, Bull Rush and Trip, Disarm, Shove. The latter say that, on a hit, you also attempt a contest. So my understanding is that you still deal your normal damage: You have hit your target. Anyone else could...

D&D 5E (2014) Repeating information for easier reference VS Shared description to save space

Put stuff where you need it. Class spell lists belong with their classes. Specialties were much better with their feats underneath. (Of course that requires that all feats only belong to one speciality.) Specific abilities like Track should be listed with their class. If there is a feat, that...

    Class Warfare

Very good article. There is also "Class as a specific piece of game world". That's especially common with prestige classes (If you are Purple Dragon Knight, you are a member of the Purple Dragons!), but some 3.x base classes have hints of this approach as well (Duskblade as an elven swordmage)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Two-weapon fighting and combinations

You're math is probably correct. Two short swords (average 7 dam) are actually better than a great sword (average 6.5 dam). Larger weapon dice are more interesting with critical hits, but that's it. I'm OK with Rogues using two weapons. All melee rogues I have seen in 3.x used two weapons, so...

D&D 5E (2014) So what's the problem with restrictions, especially when it comes to the Paladin?

Indeed. You can write anything in the text. I'd rather have like three commendments that come with the oath. (4e did a good job with the dieties' commendments.) But no rule may punish a player for failing to adhere to such a code.

D&D 5E (2014) Things I Miss From Older Playtest Packets

Proper Fighter subclasses. (I understand it's more a matter of arrangement currently.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Which feats shouldn't be feats

They should get rid off feat prerequisites all together. Most of them are redundant, all of them are tedious.

    D&D 5E (2014) Two-weapon fighting and combinations

Having looked through the package, I have found some effects of TWF, I'd like to share. - The whip is good off-hand weapon. It doesn't receive an ability bonus in the first place. - Monks can use their fists for two weapon fighting, since they are considered light weapons. - TWF works well...

D&D 5E (2014) The new exploration rules, discussion

TOR works a bit differently. An encounter only happens, when someone botches the roll. In this system the monsters keep coming by themselves. That makes the integration of the travel rules very simple: You leave "travel mode" as soon as a botch happens (or when you arrive at your chosen...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Deadly Strike be a level feature?

I'd go the other way: I'd like to see Skill Die increases and standard feat gains included in the class table. It isn't necessary to repeat the rule every time in full, but a reminder would be most useful. And it's always useful to have a name for rules.

D&D 5E (2014) Will magic be problematic at latter levels?

Was it like that in an earlier version of the playtest? This is not how Dominate currently works. I like the idea, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid Spellcasting

That way lies madness. Id rather increase the automatic spells known per level for the wizard back to 2.

D&D 5E (2014) First Level Hit Points Need to Increase

I hear you. Rolling the first HD normally + Con mod +10 might also do the job. Maximizing the first HD always appeared somewhat arbitrary to me.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which feats shouldn't be feats

I think Specialties are a way to tame the uncontrolled growth of feats. If you always make sure to have such a theme for your crunch, it necessarily becomes more compact. Of course, to achieve that each feat would actually have to be part of a Specialty.

    D&D 5E (2014) The New Fighter

Is it really necessary to make a difference between Whirlwind Attack and Volley? It's the same thing.
