    Sorcerer vs Wizard

Oh, sorry. I've missed that. It's not only moved but a different rule than the one in the first playtest. Thanks.

    Sorcerer vs Wizard

The change log for this playtest says that the wizard isn't subject to spell disruption anymore either. In fact, it isn't listed for the current wizard.

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclass in 5E

3e multiclassing with a feat cost is an interesting option. It alleviates the problem of frontloaded classes somewhat. Making this cost a skill training instead of a just discarding a feat slot is also a good call. It would probably work best with retraining per level. Otherwise you can only...

[playtest 2] Distressed by rogue damage

That would be reasonable, but in fact when asked after the last playtest in Rule of 3, it was explained that a canceled Advantage is still enough to trigger SA.

    Warlock and Sorcerer

Oh dear, please not. At least not in general. It's alright for me, if there are some spells that only work for wizards or only for sorcerers, but strictly separate lists will entail lots of redundancy, as we have seen in 4e.

Backgrounds, Specialties, and the other classes

We had this topic a few times already and I wholheartedly endorse your list of classes. I think, except for Warlord, the devs already mentioned working on all of them. (If Warlord as a class has been hinted at, I'd be very happy btw.) Still, we might see some things that used to be classes at...

Jack of all Trades & Survivor

I'm not sure "beginner" is the right word. It's a bit patronizing in fact. It's a question of style. These named packages cater to players who enjoy the flair associated with the package's name. Personally, I think Backgrounds and Specialties are the best things since sliced bread, and I do...

Jack of all Trades & Survivor

Now, this is not so. One header and paragraph is less space than one header and paragraph of fluff text each for several themes. It's kind of rule of thumb in game design: If you put two things into your game, make them work very much the same or very differently. The middle ground in these...

Jack of all Trades & Survivor

You are correct. But I don't think that these Specialties can serve the purpose. Specalties as presented expand the story of the character. I'm an archer. I'm a medic. This is great. Because now a player who is not much interested in rules can look for the story imparted by the specialty. I...

Jack of all Trades & Survivor

Let's talk about the odd Specialties. Unlike the other these are mostly containers for two kinds of feats: Extra Skill and Extra HD. They do not offer a strong image. Unlike an archer carrying a bow, a necromancer usually dressed in black tossing around evil spells or a healer with her tools of...

    Dual-weapon fighting is extremely lackluster

I wonder how the the feat compares to Rapid Shot. They are mechanically the same, just with different weapons. So far I see the following advantages for Rapid Shot: - Ranged combat, less danger to the character. - Only one magic weapon required instead of two. - Larger damage die, d10 instead...

    Dual-weapon fighting is extremely lackluster

Apparently you do not declare CS until after you hit or miss. Otherwise Glancing Blow wouldn't make sense. So you can apply your CS dice any way you like after you have rolled to hit. Sneak Attack would probably work the same way.

Cackling Manaically at the 13 Aug Legends and Lore

This is quite unlike encounter powers in 4e. Where encounter powers in 4e were mostly offensive, the spells mentioned are defensive, reactive even. While encounter powers in 4e were chosen at level up, these are memorized in the morning. So it's not like you cast the same spell over and over...

New playtest and feats...did I miss something?

It is. It isn't restricted to classes though. Before both Clerics and Wizard could do the necromancing. Same with archery. Surely, an archer is a classic archetype, but Fighters, Rogues and Rangers can all grab a bow.

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

The limitation "per day" uses a measurement that is part of the fiction as a measurement in the rules. This kind of rule encourages certain structures in the narrative. For example with a certain number of daily uses, there must be a certain threat level during the day to challenge the...

Traps, tracks, locks, hazards, and disasters

Yes. I find it plain boring as a GM. If there are monsters, I can play monsters. If there are NPC, I can play NPCs. If there is a trap, the player rolls a saving throw and it's over. If there is a lack of food, the players will deduct their rations. If there is treasure to be hauled, the...
