How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

As far as I know those are almost exclusively made in China, so yes, they will be taking a big hit. I haven't seen any statement from WizKids yet, but their business model is particularly at risk - and unlike some of the minis under discussion, them having to scale back production and new...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

Last I'd heard, Reaper does some Bones casting themselves, but they lack the capacity to fulfill the big KS projects in-house and rely on Chinese sources for that. That may have changed in the last three years or so, that's the last time I paid much attention to what was going one with them...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

Sure, and most of printing filament is from there too. The US doesn't make squat. That said, home-printed minis have an incredible price edge over traditional ones at the moment, and while the equipment (if you don't have it already, or access to public/commercial printing services) and...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

Hard to be sure. If home printers and supplies for them get slammed, then those STL files aren't going to be very useable unless you have access to a printing service (either commercial or through a library) - and they won't be immune to tariff effects either, so their costs will go up. 3D...

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

Many game stores also rely on comics (and trades, and collectable thingies, etc.) as part of their revenue stream, and those are all under threat as well to one degree or another - mostly paper tariffs on the comics, but model kits and figurines and statues aren't made in the good old US much...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

I never said it was. What I am saying is that there is going to be an increasing shift toward pdf, and that many manufacturers will abandon "regular" print runs altogether in the face of unsupportable costs. That will leave your "physical copy" options as a customer to 1) POD, whether you like...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

Sure, and they'll likely go higher still but the cost (no matter how bad it gets) will be on the customer who choses it. There's very little reason not to offer a POD option alongside your pdf even if fewer people take advantage of it. Unlike doing regular print runs for physical books...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

Digital and POD, most likely. There will still be people wanting physical product and with the ability to pay for it.

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

I think it's reasonable to expect that we'll be seeing a retail store die-off at least on par with the massive comic store closures that followed the bursting of the speculator bubble in the 90s, and the death of many sports card shops when a similar card boom ended in the 80s. That's just...

    D&D 3.x A vaguely remembered prestige class

Definitely. The only reason I single out practical FX is so that CGI entries have some chance to even make it on a list. Very much prefer practical FX to CGI, whether we're talking monsters like Harryhausen's creations or Vermithrax or model work like 2001 and Space: 1999.

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

That's been happening for years now as printing technology and digital sculpting tools become better and better, but I expect this will accelerate things even further. I suspect some (many?) companies will offer both STLs and pre-printed ones for those who don't want to print their own, with...

    D&D 3.x A vaguely remembered prestige class

The film itself is dire, but speak no ill of Vermithrax Pejorative, the greatest practical FX dragon in all of film history. Which is not a minor achievement considering the Seventh Voyage of Sinbad exists. :)

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

Best of luck and good on you for your determination to try to stay in what I assume is something of a dream job for you. I know two other game store owners who tell me they're putting out feelers for someone to buy their businesses. Failing that they're planning to sell off their stock ASAP...

    White Dwarf Reflections #15

He looks really nervous, doesn't he? "Is someone following me?" There are so few choices available to the monster player that this might as well be a solo game, and it was inherently played as such IME. Not even a good game that way, but as a solo at least only one person's time is being...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

I've already noticed an uptick in that in the last couple of weeks. Very much so, as well as card games (collectible or not) and (to a lesser degree) many miniatures, particularly plastics. Very true. The Golden Age of board gaming is likely ending right this moment. I also expect a hard...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

On the subject of conservatism, there are still ongoing arguments (some quite bitter) about whether ascending rather than descending AC is a crime against nature. I strongly suspect the same people have strong opinions about which end of a hard-boiled egg should be opened first.
