D&D General Have you ever retired a character?

I've always wanted to run a campaign in which the first round of characters retire at 5th Level. The second round of characters start at 5th Level and are the children / mentees / students etc of the previous characters. The second round of characters retires at 10th Level, and then a third...

D&D 5E (2024) New Campaign: game day setup

Nice setup! These days I just have my laptop for my adventure notes, a notepad to keep track of initiative and enemy hit points, a big poster paper with a 1 inch grid, and some markers. Also the fishing gear kit that I keep my minis collection in.

D&D 5E (2024) Help me flesh out this adventure idea: The Skull

I went on a long bike ride today and came up with some ideas... Baron Von Holst was legendary for his academic prowess and endless greed. He wanted everything, including knowledge of the universe and its workings, and the countless treasures of history. When he mysteriously vanished a...

D&D 5E (2024) Help me flesh out this adventure idea: The Skull

There's a book my son loved called 'The Skull' by Jon Klassen. It's a folk tale in which a girl runs away from home to a castle where she befriends a talking skull. The only problem is that every night a headless skeleton comes to the castle, trying to capture the skull. I thought this would...

dumb premise for a game - Medieval Aliens

I think this is a really fun idea. If you replace fairies or demons with aliens, it creates a fun twist on King Arthur and other medieval tales. Merlin is a half-alien, the "lady in the lake" is a holographic projection from a crashed alien ship, Excalibur is a weapon built with alien tech...

Did you know that you can drive 4,000 miles from San Francisco and still be in California? You just keep driving back and forth from San Francisco to LA over and over and over again.

Have I told you how big the US is??? (Kidding, I know that's something that folks are always doing.)

    Why do the Actors Matter?

I can only speak to my own experience that I find it more distracting to have the digital facsimile of an actor rather than a new actor. Carrie Fischer lives on Earth. Princess Leia is the one who lives in space. I don't need to see Carrie Fischer to know it's Princess Leia.

    Why do the Actors Matter?

I fully agree with this. To me there is no reason why another actor can't play Luke Skywalker, Indiana Jones, etc. What really takes me out of it is when they digitally de-age an actor to show them as the younger version of the character. For so long in movies audiences have accepted that...

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

To be fair, I've never heard of any of the terms I listed either.

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

Here are a few more: Bottlepop RPG - I guess it makes sense that there's a genre of light and poppy RPGs, but I see too many being described like this. Dungeon Theater - a term used too often to dismiss all the descriptive elements in a dungeon or adventure that aren't necessary for game play...

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

I really wish people would stop using the following terms when discussing roleplaying games: Barconian - not every system is truly Barconian and it waters down the term to overuse it. Dice Queen - having lots of dice shouldn't make anyone a target of derision. Fungeon - if I read one more...

AN AI band has 900,000 monthly listeners

It sounds like they don't want to be a commission artist! On the other hand just today I had a talk with my friend who is really excited to get to work on a bunch of commissions. I think the truth is that when anyone is asked to do a task they do not want to do, they feel somewhat like a robot...

D&D General Preparing dungeons without knowing the setting or campaign

I love going in with a blank slate! It gets my creative fires burning. When I start a new campaign with a new group, I go through a questionnaire with them (inspired by Ironsworn) in which we decide the feel, environments, deadliness, and common opponents of a setting. I even have them help...

D&D General Preparing dungeons without knowing the setting or campaign

At some point in the next few months I'm going to be starting a new campaign. When I start a new campaign, I like to create the setting collaboratively with the players, and even come up with campaign and adventure arcs together. (I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but collaboration like...

AN AI band has 900,000 monthly listeners

Quoting myself here to clarify: What I mean by this is that an artist could, for example, have an AI develop a thousand pictures based on a prompt of beauty and then create a collage in order to expose the AI's inherent bias. Or an artist could use prompts to try to closely recreate classic...
