    D&D General I ran a good one-shot last night (post-mortem)

It's more a hodge-podge of adventures I've run before than one I actually had detailed out.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you allow flighted Player characters to carry other Player characters?

Yes, if it seems reasonable they could carry them. A goliath with flight cast on them is definitely carrying the whole group. An 8-strength Gnome wizard with flight is going to struggle to carry the goliath!

    D&D General I ran a good one-shot last night (post-mortem)

I've had some great experiences running one-shots for new groups. I once ran a game for a bunch of coworkers at the elementary school I taught at that had everyone cheering and shouting, it was great. However, I do love long-term campaigns. I don't worry too much about connecting plots and...

    D&D General I ran a good one-shot last night (post-mortem)

The time-based encounters worked so well that I might need to fold it into my regular games if I ever get a long-term campaign gong again! Here's a little synopsis of how I did my prep... I started by jotting down some ideas and goals for the one-shot, then creating a kind of thought-map of...

    D&D General I ran a good one-shot last night (post-mortem)

The session started at 8:30, we gabbed for about 30 minutes, then played from 9:00 - 11:30.

    D&D General I ran a good one-shot last night (post-mortem)

I met a couple recently who likes playing D&D, and they asked if I'd run a one-shot. It took about three months to find a date (life with kids is tough!), but finally last night I ran a one-shot D&D game for them and it went great! I wanted to collect my thoughts about what went well and reflect...

    Video Games You Wish Existed

I think about this a lot! I got to work for a video game company for about nine months before I started teaching (Toys for Bob, working on Skylanders: Giants), and a friend of mine from that company now owns his own video game company. I would love it if there were RPGs designed to teach new...

Level Up (A5E) Level Up: Advanced 5E Post-Mortem

I'm glad you are taking a break from running games! You deserve it, it's obvious that you've put a ton of work into running games for the past many many years. It still seems to me that there's a bit disconnection between what you and your players are putting into the game. I don't think this...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

A Star Trek show focusing on second contact would be really, really interesting!

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

It would be interesting to do a post-DS9 show that continues the idea of a frontier settlement but isn't beholden to the same characters. It could be set in the Gamma Quadrant. Post-Dominion, a lot of the Alpha Quadrant folks are trying to establish new territories, trade routes, political...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I'm saying learn from what made DS9 great rather than trying to reheat old leftovers.

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I think the new series work much better when the connection to the old characters is "I trained with them" or "I'm related to them" or "I want revenge on them" than just bringing the old characters back. Those old characters already had big story arcs, and giving them new problems and flaws...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I would rather there be a new series that captures the magic of DS9 than trying to revive the series itself. Let the old characters be! Bring in new characters and plotlines, but learn from the amazingness of DS9.
