JURASSIC WORLD 4: Rebirth Trailer 2

Honestly a far-future setting in which humans had to abandon the Earth and now a team had to return, only it's been entirely populated by dinosaurs... Could be fun!

California bill (AB 412) would effectively ban open-source generative AI

While this is true, there needs to be a focus on the process, not just the product. Students will use AI to create their essays if the only focus is on earning a grade. I think there's going to have to be a focus on the process now since the product can just be made with a prompt and the click...

California bill (AB 412) would effectively ban open-source generative AI

Teacher here (3rd Grade so AI is less of an issue). Talking about this with a colleague this week, and I think it's going to really force a rethinking of how and why students create products like essays. I read an article from a professor who basically said that the students who are going to...

    Trailer Superman Full Trailer

It's a trailer. We don't see the context, what part of the movie it's in, the justifications for the questions or the response. I think it's pretty early to do a full character analysis without actually knowing what happens in the movie.

Your most "visceral" experience at a movie theater.

Never mind! Misread the post. 😳

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

That scene chokes me up! The evolving relationships is one of the best things about the show. Bashir and O'Brien, Bashir and Garak, Sisko and Jake, Quark and Odo, Odo and Kira, etc etc etc. The relationships change over time, and the characters are actually given room to grow.

Your most "visceral" experience at a movie theater.

The AV Club has a great little article about visceral experiences at the movie theater. What are your most memorable movie theater experiences? The ones when the movie hits just right, your emotional state is just right, and you are totally carried away? For me, the movie theater experiences...

What are must read short stories?

I'm a big fan of short stories as a medium, both in reading and writing them. I buy The Best American Short Stories and the O'Henry Prize collection every year. There's an annual Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy anthology too, though I haven't checked it out. Most of my favorite short...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

If the well-documented rampant anti-Semitism doesn't scare you off, then the lack of business acumen should hopefully do so. It's bonkers to me that people still support companies that promote hate and fail to actually produce products with money given to them.

California bill (AB 412) would effectively ban open-source generative AI

I think you may be mixing pro-copyright with pro-big-business and it's not the same thing at all. If Sly Flourish's work was used without compensation to create a tool that now a company is now making money off of, Sly Flourish should be informed and paid. That's not pro-big-business, it's...

California bill (AB 412) would effectively ban open-source generative AI

Let's follow this through. If you want to train yourself on an artist's work, how do you do this? You might go to a museum and study the work. You might take a class. You might get art books from a store or the library. You might go online to sites that host an artist's work. If you aren't...

California bill (AB 412) would effectively ban open-source generative AI

Thank you for linking to the actual proposed law! So basically it's saying that if you train an AI on copyrighted materials, you have to list the copyrighted materials you used. That seems like a reasonable thing to do.

A guide for using Public Domain art in RPGs

I was linked to this article, which I found really fascinating: Using Public Domain Art in Tabletop Game Design I think it's an interesting read and resource, especially with the current discourse around AI art. There are a lot of images that would look great in an RPG book, or that could be...
