Have you bought any books because they won an ENnie?

I have a number of products that have won an ENnie or have been nominated. However, none of my purchases are based on the award. I think the awards are a great nod to those involved with the award winning product, but more often than not, I've already got the product and completely agree with...

I believe these guys are in Monsters of Faerun

    Neglected Monsters

We encountered a Grey Render, that was eyeing our Dire Boar mounts (party of dwarves). Turns out the Render had adopted an elven village that we were travelling near and didn't want us to harm them. The encounter was diplomatically resolved when we met up with the elves, but we have seen one.

Fantasy names for Real World nations

Here's what I used in my campaign world (link in the sig) British Isles - Britannia Ireland - Hybernia Wales - Cymru Scotland - Kingdom of Caladonia & Caladonian Highlands Britain - Albion France - Galia Of course in my campaign world France is not a united kingdom and is broken up into 6...

What are the 10 best d20/D&D companies out there?

Oh and just to stay on topic. Here are my favored d20 companies, in order. 1) WotC 2) AEG 3) Fantasy Flight (even without Legends & Lairs, Midnight still rocks) 4) Arthaus/Sword Sorcery (Ravenloft stuff) 5) Green Ronin 6) Necromancer Games (adventures not so much, Tome of Horrors oh yeah) 7)...

What are the 10 best d20/D&D companies out there?

This is really too bad to hear, these are two of my favorite d20 publishers. Outside of WotC products, AEG and Fantasy Flight were the only publishers I would regularly consider purchasing from. While the editing was occasionally a bit weak, I loved the one-word titles. As for Fantasy Flight...

    Azure Edge

    Thank you very much!

    Azure Edge

Does anyone know if the magic item known as Azure Edge has been converted from 2E to 3E? It was an intelligent great axe, designed to battle demons and devils, glowed blue when in their presence and was from the Forgotten Realms. It was detailed in the 2E Magic Encyclopedias and one of the...

World's Largest Dungeon: And the verdict is?

Honestly I would love to get this. Unfortunately there are three books in line ahead of it. Besides, the price tag is just a bit hard for me to take at the moment.

Game Purchase Priorities (Or are Gamers Broke?)

I used to spend about $100 a month on game books, but then we went from a double income family to a single income and things changed. I have a pretty solid collection, most of which I don't even use, so it's not that I need to purchase more. Now I just have a list and I update and prioritze it...

Guys playing girls (chime in, ladies)

I'm a male playing a female paladin/fighter and the above approach is exactly what I do. Realistically there is little in the way I play that would indicate my character is female. I play her as an extremely professional, though not terribly dedicated, representative of her deity (St...

Does your spouse/significant other game with you?

I actually met my wife through gaming. She was a friend of my college roommate and I came home from class one day to find her flipping through my PHB. Apparently she had played some in high school and wanted to start again. She was a regular in my group until we graduated and then for about a...

How many Players in your game?

I checked 8 as that's our current number, but our table usually ranges from 6 up to 9. Of course, having 9 at the table is pretty rare and also a huge pain in the butt, imho. I prefer 6, as it's a manageable number and is far more capable of being a balanced team than WotC's "recommended" 4.

Are the mass combat systems in Alderac's Empire and War sourcebooks the same?

The mass combat rules in AEG's War are pretty abstract and really have no appeal to a tabletop inclined approach. I can't remember much about AEG's Empire mass combat rules, other than they were more detailed than those in War and they made my head hurt. The Skirmish Combat rules in AEG's...

    Continental name for quasi-Europe?

This was the route I took in developing my Earth-like campaign (link's in the sig). Europa kept it simple, and seemed to fit best with the naming styles used for the various nations (i.e. Gallia, Caledonia, Hybernia, Cymru, Albion, etc.)

    d20 Future - Buying?

I'm not actually going to buy it, but I am going to be getting it. Generally my wife won't by me gaming books simply because she knows if I want it I'll get it myself. However, this one is going on my list of "I won't be purchasing it, but I would really like to have it." Currently it's not...

Do you allow resurrection-type magic in your campaign?

I chose "Yes, with strings attached" I posted my reasoning in another thread (I believe it was titled Raise Dead), but I've copied it over to here since this thread is actually discussing the issue instead of discussing the cause of character death. Anyhow in my upcoming Greyhawk campaign I am...

    Raise Dead etc.

I won't discuss my thoughts on the players mindset regarding his character, it looks like enough folks have done so already. I will, however, address your question about how commonplace the return to life spells when I'm DM. In my upcoming Greyhawk campaign I am being quite restrictive on the...

Campaigns you hope to run someday before you die

My Homebrew campaign is just the thing you are looking for and conveniently enough I've actually written up a guidebook so others can use it. Currently the version available is for 3e, but I am currently working on a 3.5e version that is going to be considerably more useful. Check out my web...

Campaigns you hope to run someday before you die

Long ago, back with my college group I ran a one shot with this concept. My WoD (World of Darkness) campaign used Immortals, so I made use of the flashback concept that makes Highlander so cool, imho. The Immortal character naturally played himself, but I had the rest of the party play various...
