D&D 4E A mystery Race in 4E FRCG (Rich Baker scoop)

Since Drow are in, the obvious complement would be..... ..... Half-Drow! *cheers*

D&D 4E A mystery Race in 4E FRCG (Rich Baker scoop)

Think avarial and aquatic elves are out based on that "marginal races" post a while back. Guess that also mean we will not see any Loxo ;)

    Critical Hits: What's Best?

That seems a pretty strange caveat. If players significantly outlevel the baddies they fight, it isn't all that unreasonable to assume that they'll only get hurt if the baddies get in spectacular rolls. Whats more.. on that difference, non-criticals will deal so little damage compared to PC...

    Critical Hits: What's Best?

Which is not a good thing.. alas, opinions differ. Predictable combats are at best an oxymoron. At worst, they take out the very reason one ought to simulate bloody adventures in a safe table-top environment. I'm riding the Lady Luck and betting the life of my beloved little PCs on the roll of...

    Critical Hits: What's Best?

I don't think it is the same effect in the long run, since it were precisely the low and high damage spikes that made combat.. you know.. random, exciting and dangerous. If the goal is to eliminate spikes, why not just attribute an average dmg/per round to each character and remove the pesky...

    Dragonborn: Boobs or No Boobs?

Of course... tails obviously went to Tieflings. Got to respect the niches lest the Rangers will seek to tank, the Rogues to lead and the world come crashing to its bitter end...

D&D 4E What abilities and paragon paths would you like to see for the 4e ranger?

This many trees kinda defeats the point of talent trees. Might aswell just give em a dozend abilities to pick and choose.

D&D 4E What abilities and paragon paths would you like to see for the 4e ranger?

Almost certainly Drizzt was dual-wielding because he's a ranger. Besides that.. racial genetic weapon proficiencies are pretty much the one thing even more silly than woodsmen with in-build ambidexterity.

    Grittier 4th Edition: Pointers

A good way in 3.0 for making the game a bit more gritty IMO was to agree with the players to multiclass into NPC-classes to variing degrees (i.e. only one level, every other level, etc..). It gives players some hitpoints, saves and skills but scales down the spells and juicy abilities nicely...

    Critical Hits: What's Best?

Die-rolling is not the game. Die-rolling is a crutch to get across disagreements when the game is stalled and assure realatively fair treatment for everyone participating in the game. So the less time you spend on rolling dice, the more time you have to let your PC's delve into the roleplaying ;)

    Critical Hits: What's Best?

Dunno, but a Great Axe, not to mention a longsword aswell, are supposed to be things that kill other things, aint they? I've usually used 3.5 crit without confirmation roll and a lower damage threshold for a fort-save d20 modern like and I usually don't allow resurrection by players. If a...

    D&D 4E Find the Anime/Video games in 4e

Maybe, but like it or not, D&D itself had left the table for a few years back than. D&D 3.0 (and by extension 4.0) might use an old brand and claim continuity for marketing purposes, but they are still games published in a larger enviroment that is preceding them as well as influencing them...

Points of light - stable or fragile?

Hmmm.. I'd say both. IMO think Ten Towns in Icewind Dale from the early Drizzt books. Those towns are way out there and even before Drizzt & co. show up, they're constantly battling Giants, Yeti and rampaging Barbarian Hordes with desperate alliances and heroic deeds saving the towns time and...

    D&D 4E Find the Anime/Video games in 4e

Even though the chronology-nazis will pick on me again, but I'll have to point out that character advancement by "killing & looting" is very, very, very, very video-gamey. Maybe D&D did it before games like Ultima Online or Everquest or even computers, but Roleplaying as a whole had long...

    D&D 4E Find the Anime/Video games in 4e

Really? per-day/per-encounter/at-will seems pretty much to be the standard of RPGs (outside D&D that is) since at least the early 90s. Just one example: If I remember correctly, my ol' Vampire and Werewolf Games all featured powers that lasted "one scene" which could be a combat encounter as...

    D&D 4E Find the Anime/Video games in 4e

Seems largely a matter of perspective. Those campaigns just fell in naturally with a lack of others to measure them up against. Might just as well consider it DM-bending-over-backwards to accomodate a more diverse group of players (i.e. the 4-role-type). Almost certainly it is alot easier to...

    D&D 4E Find the Anime/Video games in 4e

Not really... I vividly remember 2e campaigns where we've been playing games where "everyone was a wizard's appreantice from candlekeep" or "everyone was a scouty-type working for the Harpers" and noone felt it "abnormal" or out of place. Infact, finding a suitable story to include people as...

    D&D Worlds

Likely not as "full-fledged" lines the way FR was/is published, but I could see a line of books doing the old settings as one-offs like Ghostwalk or the WoT they published during 3.0 times. Call em D&D vintage, or D&D classics or some such and work down Mystara, Spelljammer, Dark Sun, etc...
