What's really at stake in the Edition Wars

Ahh, college. The privilege to navel-gaze and over complicate things for just thousands of dollars a year. How long have you been on this here internet thing? Your error is looking at the edition war as an isolated thing. It's one of countless "Tastes great! Less filling!" wars that happen...

    This mentality needs to die

Is there anything on this planet that a marketer can't FUBAR?

Another "blame it on D&D" story

Let's be clear about this. It's not just Dungeons and Dragons that caused this murder, but the FOURTH edition in particular. This never would have happened if WotC had just kept updating 3.5. At least we have Pathfinder now, which personally saved my cat from a burning building. You know who set...

Blog posts on DDI should be free

Sounds like it wasn't a blog post, but an editorial article. You had to pay to read those when the magazine existed in paper form. Unless you're one of those people that read the magazine in the store and never bought it.

You're the Head of WOTC. Now What?

I'd play DnD... Like a boss. Mod edit - dude, we run a family-friendly place. Link removed

    Yay Failing Book Stores?

Why are people on an internet message board complaining about a lack of book stores? The internet is much more economical and efficient. Amazon has practically every book and links to used books. There are other sellers besides Amazon or even the chance to buy directly from the author. You can...

    Status of D&D Game Table?

ALL marketers are like that everywhere in every industry throughout all time. Guess you've never worked with marketers before?

I'm calling it: The Edition War is over! And the winner is...

The only winners in the edition war have been the forum owners who get extra ad impressions from the increased page views generated by the endless flaming.

    The Next Innovation in Gaming

All digital. You'll get your "books" via the internet, probably via subscription. WOTC is practically there. They just need to offer the fluff. Others will follow suit as soon as someone writes the software that allows small-time publishers play the game as well (like RPG.net). Tablets are...

    When does detail become tedium?

I guess you missed the release of 4e when there was a huge bout of nerdrage about the lack of metallic dragons in the MM. It was just too hard to recolor the chromatic dragons and play them as nice. So WotC is just giving the public what they want since so many people want tons of dragons.

    The DM Hotline

We can only hope it won't be clogged with people that want a chance to complain about 4e.

    New D&D Website

The funny thing is that all this nerdrage about what's free and what isn't is going down on a forum that's currently running a drive for paid subscriptions. The forum owner is talking about transforming the site into a sustainable business. Look out. Something that was formerly free might be...

    Ship battle-mats/tiles

There were some good deck plans in the old Stormwrack book. When I needed ships I just drew some in Illustrator, printed them out, and contact paper laminated them.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder First Print Run Sold Out

One reason is that the 4e players/fans have had to put up with over a year of every thread discussing the game getting :):):):) on by people that decided they didn't like 4e. You couldn't have any sort of discussion without someone trying to start an edition war. Even Enworld, with alert...

D&Di - Monster Builder Beta Launch Announced

I'm not sure if that's very necessary. When I was dragging some powers around the application was scaling the to-hit and damage numbers for me based on the level of monster I was creating.

    Att: WotC - Replacing PDF's

I'm all for the idea of rolling the fluff from the books into DDI. I'd pay up to $100 a year for access to the entire library. In subscription form I think HTML would be my preferred format, especially if it was well-linked. Maybe everyone isn't on board the subscription train, but most heavy...

Where does the Psion leave the Monk?

The monk isn't that far out there. Remember the SoulKnife? Psionic, but didn't use power points. There's so much crossover anyway as others have stated. It's not just a DnD thing either. In Shadowrun there were physical adepts. They were basically monks that used magic to enhance themselves...

    4E playtesting or lack thereof

I'd say that chess has had a few flaws that got ugly patches. Castling and en passant stick out as afterthoughts to the otherwise elegant rules. Then again, chess itself has many historical versions that were tested and refined over time to become classic chess. And like RPG editions, there are...

WotC 4E D&D bloat (was Forked Thread: Pathfinder (PFRPG) bloat)

Why all the focus on books? Books can be nice since they offer the material in another format, but look at things a different way via DDI. I've paid $60 for a year subscription. That's about the cost of two books. Most of the books people are making the most noise about are crunch indexes...

    Dungeon mapping software

Depends on what you mean by mapping software. Do you mean virtual tabletop or software used to draw maps? For virtual tabletop MapTool is probably tops if your focus is on maps. FantasyGrounds is also good, but doesn't have as many map features. For creating maps, I like vector graphics...
