TSR The Cult of Abaddon - Release from NuTSR/TheEvilDM

It was a LONG time ago, I think it was a Necromancer Games module. One of their first dozen or so. And that at least was just a minor mistake; they didn't realize the SRD didn't contain shadow dragons, they were only in a FR supplement that was not part of the OGL. Yeah, as I've looked at Jim's...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

In your professional opinion, what will happen that prevents this from getting to a jury trial? I don't disagree, but there's still the odd guy on various places who are like "Well, you never know..."

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

That's what really angers me, honestly. When Ernie dismisses WotC as a "corporate raider" who "stole" the game from his father. No. Just, no. They SAVED the IP from being chopped up and sold off to anyone who bid on it after it was mishandled and driven to bankruptcy. Peter Atkitson and his crew...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Well the one package who's tracking number could be discerned on their images was actually shipped, so Dungeon Crawl is, I think, getting fulfilled. I'm not so sure about Cult of Abbadon. While we saw shots of packaged items, they never bothered to show a photo of one. Plus all of those...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Ah yeah, you're right. Which is another reason they moved away from it with the 2nd edition as they wanted it to be taken more seriously.

More specifically, David Kenzer is a patent lawyer, well-versed in the area. Rather than get damages, the deal they struck with WotC was they could use the AD&D rules system as a baseline for Hackmaster. The deal also had a limited timeframe in which they could produce products. That's why the...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Let's not even say "there's a chance..." because there isn't one. For one thing, the court lawsuit is about trademark ownership, nothing else. I'm not a lawyer myself, but my understanding is that it's nothing like what you see on television shows. There's no dramatic "Ah ha, I will bring this...

It would not surprise me if he tries to demand the venue be changed to Lake Geneva. Which won't happen.

TSR TSR3.5 Launches IndieGogo Campaign to "Stop" WotC

That was never anything but a means to garner support from the gullible older gamers, who considered the disclaimer an insult. Not that the lawsuit would have even made it possible for LaNasa to ever do anything about it. All their lawsuit focuses on is trademarks, which are not IP/copyrights...

Don't feed the troll. Arguments are futile against them.

I see in the document that the staff recommendation was to approve it. And Justin listed the DHSM as his address, which we know is a lie.

Well that explains why they had the "closed" sign out, despite being open.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

WotC bought TSR before they went bankrupt. Peter Adkinson convinced the board to do so, when they were inclined to let TSR file chapter 11 and then get it cheaper, but he knew if they did that, most of the licenses would end up with different parties. By buying them before that, they managed to...

TSR NuTSR Sells Rebound 1E Core Rulebooks For $650 Each

Chaosium at the time owned the rights to Cthulhu for RPG's. I'm not sure it was truly enforceable though because all of Lovecraft's works are in the public domain now. At the time, TSR capitulated without a fight because they didn't want to test it. This fits their pattern, they were happy to...

TSR NuTSR Sells Rebound 1E Core Rulebooks For $650 Each

Unknown. I imagine PoD's is a grey area. That said, I suspect not, because that would be a major loophole that could be exploited in trademark law otherwise.

TSR NuTSR Sells Rebound 1E Core Rulebooks For $650 Each

You again? I'm sensing a pattern with your posts... As far as the books go, I find compilations like this actually less useful than the single books themselves. A huge heavy book is difficult to open and manage at the table. Their sole value is honestly just to look good on a coffee table.

TSR NuTSR Sells Rebound 1E Core Rulebooks For $650 Each

Given their own version of the trademarked logo is part of the litigation, it's not smart of them to sell any product with it on it, as that will be considered as part of the damages due.

TSR NuTSR Sells Rebound 1E Core Rulebooks For $650 Each

I'm not a trademark lawyer, but I would say that given the purpose of trademarks is to protect consumers from buying a product from a company pretending to be another company, an argument can definitely be made that these are trademark violating. Especially combined with TSR LLC's habit of...

Reprints like these were in the Dungeon Hobby museum before; I checked pics from during TSR Con and spotted them in the display case. They had one that didn't have the TSR Game Wizards logo on it at all, but another did. There's a good chance that these copies are all that exist. I just can't...

Oh excellent article, thank you for sharing! And honestly a good one to have on this thread; a reminder of what old TSR did wrong. So much wrong.
