What Core Races have you played?

Admittedly there are only 17 votes right now, but I'm seriously the only person who hasn't played a human?

CoDzilla? Someone needs to explain this to me.

Yeah, our campaign is also based on wilderness adventures against large numbers of foes. Needless to say, Entangle is getting a workout. Natural Spell and wildshaping as anything with flight is also pretty much a game breaker. There are limitations to a druid, such as dungeoneering and city...

CoDzilla? Someone needs to explain this to me.

Yeah, I'll echo that. As a druid, I have to try really hard not to overshadow the party. Our DM is the kind that likes to play the dice as they lay, and the campaign is really open-ended (meaning you can get into trouble pretty easily), so sometimes I feel obligated to unleash the full power...

    Question for the mathematically inclined...

Well, with two attacks, you're more likely to do some damage, which means that you are less likely to do no damage in a round. I'm not sure how you'd quantify that though. It'd also depend on your chance to hit. But yeah, they're roughly even.

    Question for the mathematically inclined...

Well, as there is a difference in strength modifiers, the answer will partially depend on what Strength we're talking about. At lower strength, the two claws have a slight edge. Starting at a 16 Str, the bite has the advantage. It's pretty simple math to figure out; you could do it in your...

Making big fights with weak monsters fun.

Bull rush. Into a pit. With lava. (Ok, the lava's optional) Sure, the first guy to try is going to be demolished by the AOO, but after they're out of AOOs, bull rushing is surprisingly effective because it's just a straight Strength check instead of an attack roll. Have them be bull rushed...

    Rebirth in DnD

Well, part of that relates to the part I edited out, so it makes somewhat less sense now. There are a few ways to go about it though. One way is that only certain creatures generate karma (perhaps only the main sentient races?). Or perhaps once a (non-human) creature is slain, he...

    Rebirth in DnD

My sincere apologies if I have, or if I have offended anyone. (Incidentally checking the Rules results in a 404 error, so I can't check specifically what the rules say.) I only included the bit about Buddhism so that people could understand where the idea came from. I'll try editing my post...

    Rebirth in DnD

That's part of the point. It gives a very powerful reason to encourage genocide, even among otherwise good creatures. It's like a divine sanctioning of racial tension. Lots of opportunity for role playing.

    Rebirth in DnD

So imagine, say, a religion or a cult that believes that when a being dies, it is reborn as a new creature based on what it did during your life. If you were brutal and cruel, maybe you're reborn as an orc, or if you were noble and wise you are reborn as an elf. If you accomplished great deeds...

    Jonathan Tweet denounces Power Attack

I think 3.5 Power Attack had 2 problems: 1) It made 2-handed weapons obviously superior to sword and shield, to the point that there's really no point in having a (non-animated) shield anymore as a fighter. At least in 3.0 the disparity wasn't as bad. 2) The fact that it multiplied resulted...

    MIC - Broken?

I think that's a rather unfair observation. As I understand it, the Christmas Tree analogy, in addition to being a rather poor analogy, was aimed more at the Big Six that you had to have in order to survive rather than a collection of magic items that gave you cool, but not particularly...

    Strongholds?

IMO, the 3.x system discourages strongholds, simply because it's near impossible to defend a stronghold against, well, anything. Walls are useless when there are so many ways to bypass (flying, burrowing, etherealness) or destroy them (disintegrate, move earth, stone to mud, etc.). Offense...

    So, about those halflings...

I always saw Halflings as Kender and Gnomes as Hobbits. I thought it was rather obvious, actually.

What is your top question/concern about 4th edition?

No Gnome (confirmed?) No Druid (suspected) Which is of particular concern to me, seeing as how I'm playing a gnome druid, which would make it pretty hard for me to remake the same character for 4e.

    Reduced Magic Item Prevalence

Just get rid of number inflation. What's number inflation? Well, ACs of 50 would be a good example. DC 35 saving throws would be another. Any stat that's so ludicrously high that you need the a +5 weapon and +11 to Str just to compete. Just completely cut the Big Six (6?) out of the game...

    PHB - Human only?

Humans are already the most overused and boring race. I can't even remember the last time someone other than me ran a non-human in our group. I've never run a human just because everyone else does; that and they seem so boring. A bonus feat and skills and nothing else? Why don't I just play...

    Good races for druids

It's kind of hard to go wrong with a race for druid. You don't really have to worry about Str or Dex, and not many give a bonus to Wis, so everything is pretty much on neutral ground. I like gnome because the Str penalty doesn't really hurt you, while the Con is always handy. Low light vision...

D&D 4E Should hit points continue to be generated randomly in 4e?

Even worse is when his hit point rolls are 1, 2, 1, 1. That's about as much fun as playing a 5th level wizard that can't cast higher than 1st level spells, and about as ridiculous.

    mindless eating at games

For our group (a bunch of college students), snacks at the table consist of a bag of chips and salsa, possibly supplemented with a bag of Doritos. We usually game all day, so we have a lunch break, during which we usually eat something fast and easy (pasta, canned soup, etc.) Each of us maybe...
