As a GM, How Often Do You Fudge Dice Rolls?

I don't fudge. I think over time it makes players play less thoughtfully since they assume they can only die when it's "ok". They like a challenge and they like to be kept ont heir toes--like playing a video game on hard mode. I think if you do fudge, it's just important to realize that you did...

How do you feel about nudity in RPG books?

I agree but the standard response to this I've heard is some sort of weird gamer-essentialist argument that elfgames and the elfgame audience are too dumb to have an Anais Nin so the best thing to do is stay away from it all and make Disneygames. Or else that the thing the person arguing likes...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Slaying Stone

I had seen it advertised as more open-ended than other 4e adventures so I checked it out http://dndwithpornstars.blogspot.com/2011/08/lets-read-something-depressing.html ...but I guess I am used to things being even more open-ended than that. I modified it a bit...

How do you feel about nudity in RPG books?

…LOTFP (for instance) has successfully used these peoples' outrage to sell books, though. I think if you have that kind of person in your game, the nudity isn't the problem, the player is.

    D&D 5E (2014) Beefin' Up Monsters!

I beef them up all to hell. I'm giving them like d30 damage as standard (players are 12th-17th level). The players adapt pretty quickly, but it makes them play a lot smarter.

D&D 5E (2014) Ok all, I just cannot wrap my head around how combat works. Please Help.

Sure but that doesn't mean it isn't fun in itself plus a good pre-intro to the system. Or couldn't be made that way with the right presentation. I mean: in Call of Cthulhu, during the relatively long character gen process you _learn about your character_ and that makes you excited to play that...

Here is a list of all the tables and useful in-the-middle-of-the-game info in the DMG: (much shorter than the index in the book) pdf: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vmeq1nb234pp73g/useful%20index_5E_core.pdf?dl=0 docx: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dpn0kh2p56d1xv0/useful%20index_5E_core.docx?dl=0

D&D 5E (2014) Ok all, I just cannot wrap my head around how combat works. Please Help.

Call of Cthulhu does even better--there's a 2 page spread of the character sheet there with little arrows and every single step of character creation is called out in order--with page numbers for where stuff is. So you can run a whole group through character gen just by looking at one page.

D&D 5E (2014) Ok all, I just cannot wrap my head around how combat works. Please Help.

Yeah, and it's weird because we know that the design team read both the Mentzer Red Box and Lamentations of the Flame Princess, both of which have those very memorable walk-thus and they were just like "Nah, not gonna do it". It might've been a space or budget issue, but I think it's so...

D&D 5E (2014) Ok all, I just cannot wrap my head around how combat works. Please Help.

This comment points up something important: While the 5th edition D&D system is pretty cool, the writers and graphic designers clearly could've done a much better job of laying out how to play for brand new players. Why not a little comic strip? Or at least a flowchart? It scares me how many...

D&D 5E (2014) Describe for me a City of Illusion

It isn't actually hard to get there--people often find they've been there for months without knowing it. The city is opportunistic and parasitic, presenting convincing entrances to people looking for other cities with bad maps. "Well it says Aachen is west of the lake, and that's a lake..."...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Hexcrawl? Can it work?

I'm running one now, though I am not running 5e Rules As Written and am custom-building most of the monsters and I'm using old school rest rules so nobody gets anything back until 8 hours sleep.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Red and Pleasant Land (5e hack)

In my conception, the royal vampires are very powerful, but stick mainly to traditional vampire activites: creeping around, turning into animals, biting people, charm, bossing around minions, being hard to kill. Zaps and most overt spells are outside the vibe I was going for. But, hey--it's...
