Who are these guys: Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, James Wyatt

There was a time a few years ago when I wouldn't have been happy to see him working on the 4E core. I don't recall what I read of his that I didn't like, but it doesn't matter now anyway. Over time, I've read the Sibling Rivalry stuff, the ideas he's posted on his site, and the Draconomicon. I...

    Best fluffy 3E books?

Power of Faerun Draconomicon Dragons of Faerun (for dragon personalities - mechanics will be out of date to a greater or lesser degree) Agree that Heroes of Battle and Heroes of Horror will still be relevant. Does that count as fluff since it's about running certain types of campaigns...

    PHB, MM, DMG covers

Not awful, but I'm tired of Wayne Reynold's art these days. It's good. I like it. But I've seen too much of it lately. Todd Lockwood's covers for Forge of Fury, Ptolus, Cry Havoc, etc are more my cup of tea. Brom would also be awesome. Or even a nod to older artists, and an Elmore or Caldwell...

    Online versions of D&D books

From the news article here http://www.therepublic.com/main.asp?SectionID=393&SubSectionID=979&ArticleID=111814 "you will be able to buy online versions of your actual D&D books that update and change whenever the rules change" This is cool if it really works that way. I wonder if it's just the...

D&D 4E 4E: What we think we know

I think it would be better with 30 levels. People have often said that they miss the slower character progression, or rather than the faster character progression of 3.5 doesn't allow for keeping characters around for many adventures. Looking at things like the Adventure Paths, you'll have 12...

    D&D Brand Manager of Fluff

It is available as both a print and PDF product, last time I checked. You can also order it direct from here, if your FLGS can't get a copy. http://www.xrpshop.citymax.com/page/page/2561954.htm

    D&D Brand Manager of Fluff

I agree. Those products are aimed at young readers, and not necessarily gamers (more like those WoTC hopes to bring into the hobby). I was thinking more along the lines of combining Dragon Ecologies with the Monster Manual (II, III, etc)...into a hybrid product.

What Is Your Adventuring Groups Name?

The Orc Slayers of Hardby - Greyhawk. They originally had no name and 'were thinking of one', when they stopped a large orc attack from the Cairn Hills into the farmsteads surrounding Hardby. The locals started calling them the Orc Slayers. Those from the city of Greyhawk came to know them as...

    Why does D&D have bears?

Isn't there an old saying that a horse by any other name is still a horse? Aside from everyone needing a common frame of reference in which to imagine a fictional world, there is also the element of expediency...there is no sense explaining a creature that is a domesticated herd animal that we...

    D&D Brand Manager of Fluff

I second these nominations. All would catch my eye and I'd probably buy them The Last Battle - especially the part about discovering part of the mythological origin of Greyhawk Forgotten Realms: Beyond Faerun Gazetteer FR Lords of Light Faiths of Faerûn revive the Poor Wizards Almanac 'field...

    D&D Brand Manager of Fluff

I prefer concept fluff over storyline or canon fluff. Matierial that is confining, not that which implicitly or explicitly steers me in a certain direction. 1. Coin and Commerce (a book on D&D mercantalism) - generic D&D book, or Mercantalism of the Realms. A book Ed Greenwood has long wanted...

    Skill Based System for Fantasy

For fast paced, action movie or comic book style pacing and tone, go with Savage Worlds or D6 Fantasy For more granular character and NPC mechanics (which also play out slower at the table), go with GURPS or Fantasy Hero. GURPS if you want to play more 'realistic; historical fantasy. Fantasy...

    Dungeon #150

They should do what the comic companies do when they need a boost. Relaunch with issue number 1! Captian America returns, or something like that. Too bad it wn't happen with Dungeon :-(

Does Dread allow for recurring characters?

Does this horror RPG allow for recurring characters, like Chill, X-Files, Dark Matter, etc? Also, does it allow for character advancement if you can continue playing a character over time? I'm wondering if essentially every session has a tower fall and someone (or multiple characters) getting...

Hey Guys, If you see this, can you email me? I'm the user Netigy on your forum and I can't login, and I get an error when I try to reset my password. What do you think of Power of Faerun?

Reading through the book I generated pages of adventure and campaign arc ideas - of the plots and schemes and political machincation variety.

Using setting books without using the setting

Power of Faerun, while not a region book, is extremely portable to other settings (inspiration for plots and schemes). If you're looking for that type of material, Renegage Crowns for WHFRP, and Lords of Darkness if you want to stick with FR material are also good. Lost Empires isn't a region...

Thread that talked a lot about Riddle of Steel?

I was reading a thread that talked about (I think) interesting rules sub systems. It mentioned Riddle a Steel a lot, I think also Burning Wheel, and Pendragon. I can't seem to find the thread. Does anyone remember what it is? I know it's not the best 5 RPG books thread, or the Non-d20 systems...
