Converting monsters from the second edition Monstrous Compendiums

i had another look, and i think this is about the extent of relevant text: "Ondontis, trained by the Zhentilar usually fight with either a bastard or two-handed sword, and can easily fight with either weapon and a shield. They dislike metal armor and don leather or studded leather when not...

i think maybe that last part may be useful, but not so sure about the rest.

agreed! not sure why dragons have it arranged that way either - unless i'm just reading it wrong. we'll go with Str-based for the colossus. how is the rest of the conversion looking? i know we need to settle on the feats, but that might be just fine as is. i also found a couple of issues...

no no no... just the stat block. just a few alterations to the one we have. :) unless it would just be sufficient to say that they are armed with bastard swords or whatnot.

225 will do. :) i bet you're itching to get on to giving the Zhent-ondonti a stat block now, eh? ;)

as you can probably guess, i was inspired by the dragon's crush attack. as far as i can tell, that seems to be Con-based. of course, it seems more appropriate as Str-based, so i was unsure what to do. :)

d'oh! that's why i post every source i can find. often enough, one contains information that the other doesn't. :)

OK, i'll look into that when i get home. :)

well, i don't want the stomp that badly. ;) here is the flavor text i came up with: This giant has a head too small for its body, with a sloping forehead and protruding ears. Its legs are short, and its hands end in short, stubby fingers that seem to be useless for manipulating objects...

    Planescape Converting Planescape monsters

we needed one. :D there are a few other mephits too, which have only appeared in the PSMC1 so far - we'll get to those eventually. :)

well, they're kind of reclusive. the flavor text almost suggests that they would know Common as their native language. Orc could be a bonus language, as perhaps would Dwarf and Halfling, and maybe also Sylvan and Celestial.

i'll go Str-based for that save. :) i personally like the 1 1/2, as it fits the rules as i understand them. if that's not feasable though, i can live without it.

i think they should definitely have a language list separate from orcs. in fact, it's debatable if they should even speak Orc. :)

there is weight, also. i think it is, otherwise, done. :)

Enhanced Metabolism (Ex): A colossus has a +4 racial bonus on saving throws against disease and poison. If a colossus succeeds on its initial save against poison, it automatically succeeds on its secondary save. If a disease reaches the incubation stage, the colossus can fight off the disease...

heheheh... Armor Class: 20 (-4 size, -3 Dex, +17 natural), touch 3, flat-footed 20 will still be ridiculously easy to hit, at least from opponentss appropriate to its CR. ;) in fact, we may have to lower its CR due to things like the low AC and single actions only! you want to take one down...

    D&D 3.x Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

in addition to that, as mentioned earlier, I do think they should have more natural armor, as this would only make sense logically. A Huge storm giant has +12, so I figure they should get at least that much. I'm not quite sure how that would translate exactly (the 15-ton ship part, or full...

i'm fine with making a note of it, but i wouldn't want to impose such a thing on them.
