Flavor of the Dragon Shaman from PHB II

What does everyone think of the flavor of this class? Does it work for you? Are there gaping holes in the fluff that make you cringe? How would you incorporate this class into an existing setting like Greyhawk?

PHB II Dragon Shaman - Power Level

So, what does everyone who has the PHB II think of the Dragon Shaman class? Is it overpowered, underpowered, or balanced with respect to the core PHB classes? Edit: My campaign is delving into the World's Largest Dungeon. How well can this class work in an almost exclusively dungeon-crawling...

    Command Word As Free Action

That argument wouldn't fly with any DM I know. Anyway, I'm interested more in thoughts about what problems it would cause and what "ripple effects" the change would create, not arguments about ambiguous wording in the rulebooks.

    Collaborative Cave!

For a family to work, there would have to be a dragon old enough to be the parent. Young Adult, at CR 11, is still too young to be the mom to a Juvenile or even Young offspring. Young Adult *could* work as a separate Room, but I don't think three separate dragons in a single 12-encounter...

    Collaborative Cave!

Hmm...the flavor text for the uneven floor could be better, but OTOH, keeping a healthy level of paranoia alive in the PCs is a GOOD thing. Besides, if they're expecting traps, they won't be thinking about chokers. Going by the SRD's advancement rules, Ghzzdit the Choker at CR 2 went to CR 4...

    Collaborative Cave!

I'd also like to contribute some nasty traps to the tunnels between Rooms 2, 3, 5, and 6. I'll call it "2a" for now. Failing that, I could do an encounter for Room 5.

    Collaborative Cave!

Room: 7 Traps: None Boxed Text: Room Notes: While the jagged floor is uncomfortable to walk on, it does not have any mechanical effects on movement. It does, however, increase falling damage by 1d6 (falling 10 feet causes 2d6 damage, etc). The roof of the cavern is 20' up near the edges...

    Collaborative Cave!

Yep, large - not Huge :) Juvenile and Young age categories seem ... young to be in a mated pair, IMO. Comparing to human lifespans, wyrmling would = infant, very young = toddler, young = child, juvenile = pre-teen, and young adult would = human ages 14 to 18, maybe 20. Plus, Young Adult is...

    Collaborative Cave!

Eh, I was thinking along the lines of a Young Adult (CR 11) dragon as the BBEG for this dungeon - the BBEG should always be a few CR higher than the baseline for a dungeon! Of course, that depends on the person writing that encounter :) Ochre jellies are dangerous to pesky interlopers...

    Collaborative Cave!

That's a pretty tight squeeze for a Large dragon, in some cases!

    Collaborative Cave!

First, I'll echo the question about 5' or 10' squares. If the idea is 5' squares, then some of the passages need widening to accomodate the dragon. Are Rooms 1 and 2 (both sides of the chasm) open to the sky above? Or is the water tunnel between 1 and 2 the entrance into the cave complex? I...

    Collaborative Cave!

WTF? I've never heard of stone kith, half-radiation template, hecavir, greendbond, or chaos mage.

    Collaborative Cave!

If a *green* dragon is living here, I would think he'd want quick access to the water. Fighting from the water against pesky thieving adventurers is preferable to fighting on land; it gives him concealment for ambushing them, an easy escape route, and terrain that isn't as kind to the...

The status of the Cooperative Dungeon Project?

IRT Curtis: I have your other thread bookmarked. I was looking at it earlier, but I was drawing a blank when I tried to think of interesting encounters. I'll be looking at it again tomorrow; hopefully, I'll be feeling more creative :) Also, this thread is only two pages long. My (first)...

    Command Word As Free Action

...usable once per round, like a Quickened Spell. Would this variant cause problems in the game? Who would it weaken, who would it strengthen, and how would it break the game? I was thinking "It doesn't take all that long to say "tenderfoot" or "cruciatus" in real life, and that doesn't...

Depressed DM not getting it right...(depressingly long, very long...)

I offered something like this in an aborted campaign once. A small bonus to backstory-writers. Two of the players completely ignored the incentive.
