    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

In my case, anyway, deploring 4.0 has nothing to do with the mechanical game system, it has to do with WOTC's insulting marketing campaign, fluff changes I thought were stupid, and the OGL/GSL debacle. There are actually some elements of the 4.0 game system that pique my interest (e.g. skill...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

I strongly agree with this statement. Much of the "downside" of a specialist wizard is the opportunity cost represented by the banned schools. Giving access to the banned schools, even at a premium of costing extra spell slots, eliminates the cost.

    ENWorld Spamletter

Wrong. Just because sleazier things exist doesn't excuse rude behavior. As I noted earlier, my time is a precious commodity. Wasting even five seconds of it is unacceptable and something any reputable site should strain to avoid. Opt-in newsletters can be useful. Opt-out newsletters are...

    "SPACE FIGHT!" Starship combat boardgame

Yeah, I was thinking: Roll a single die. If it's less than 7, consult the "scatter" chart. If it's 7 or more, it's on-target. That does make it a bit harder to have bombers of varying degrees of accuracy, but you can still get that effect: Shoddy Bomber: Roll d8 on the bombing run...

Things could be worse. I'm not planning on Gencon - I haven't gone since 2005. Are you going?

    ENWorld Spamletter

One other thing to note - it's indicative of the respect and "reputation powe" that ENWorld commands that I bothered to unsubscribe and post about it. Usually, when I get an unsolicited newsletter, I click "mark as spam" in gmail and, if necessary, add a deletion filter for the sending address...

    "SPACE FIGHT!" Starship combat boardgame

I'd say 1-12. Using twelve as the base, you can take one-fourth, one-third, *and* one-half without resorting to decimals. Edit: Morrus - I have a couple of suggestions for the bombers. First, when a bomber misses its target, make it so each adjacent hex is equally likely the one to be hit --...

    ENWorld Spamletter

And in all fairness, a lot of people *do* find the newsletter useful. I'm upset about it being blasted along as an opt-out, that's all. On the contrary, unsubscribing and then complaining about the annoyance is exactly the appropriate response. Maybe, just maybe, next time Morrus/other...

How to price ring of dispel magic?

Well, how does it compare to a 4000gp Ring of Counterspells or an 18000gp minor Ring of Spell Storing? Ring of Counterspells: * Can hold up to lvl 6 spells * Activates as an immediate action * Only counters the specific spell stored in the ring * Can't be used for a general Dispel Magic - only...

    ENWorld Spamletter

Oh, well, since there's an 'unsubscribe' link, it's okay. Not. The point is, I should never have received the email in the first place -- if I wanted a newsletter subscription, I would have signed up for it from the ENWorld homepage. As for labeling it "spam", it's an unwanted automated mass...

    ENWorld Spamletter

I was very disturbed to see EN World D&D/RPG Newsletter #1 arrive in my email box yesterday. I never subscribed to an ENWorld newsletter. I never wanted to be subscribed to an ENWorld newsletter. Simply blasting it out to all user accounts rather than putting up a note about it so people...

Hexographer: Free web-based hex map generator/editor gets more updates

Ebonyr: I actually did some additional tweaking to that map. It has a few more rounded edges on coastlines and such now :) http://home.comcast.net/~norshire/qbarra_hexmap.png

What do you use as the "ultimate" evil?

Depends on the campaign, I guess. The Ultimate Evil is House Cannith. Large, bureaucratic organization? Check. Ruthlessly exploits the marketplace for its own gain? Check. Kidnaps and enslaves sentient beings for its own profit? Check. What, were you expecting some sort of mass murderer or...

Hexographer: Free web-based hex map generator/editor gets more updates

This is a very cool map editor. I discovered it last week and used it to create a hex map of Q'barra in Eberron: http://home.comcast.net/~norshire/hexmap.png I still have some tweaking to do on that map, but I'm pleased with the results so far. Nice work on the mapping software!

    Lost in the Wilderness

I ended up going with this scenario. The party met with a sage in the "ghost town" and got a map...which didn't show Gatherhold (the town they wandered out of). It DID show the lake near Gatherhold, though, so it helped their navigation (+2 on Survival checks to avoid getting lost). While...

    Why DON'T you pirate?

Probably the most salient point regarding the offtopic debating in this thread (and debating about copyright in general). I'm not sure I agree with your optimistic assessment of the ultimate fate of IP laws, but that's another point that won't matter in twenty or thirty years :)

    Why DON'T you pirate?

Funny, that didn't seem to be a problem when I opened my Christmas presents last year. I don't understand this idea that it's somehow inherently wrong to receive things without paying for them. Should we outlaw soup kitchens for giving away food when restaurants are trying to get people to pay...
