D&D 5E (2014) Should the next edition of D&D promote more equality?

Exactly. Which is why it would require an age restriction based on the sexual content. You could probably get away with more with just the sexualized females, but put males sexualized to the same extent (and *gasp* make some of them perhaps not even straight), and you'd get slapped with it...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the next edition of D&D promote more equality?

True. Would you NOT buy a game, just because a fantasy game's standard rulebooks (which might not assume a default Northern European setting) use 50-50 percentages of male/female pronouns, and a variety of ethnicities, in an effort to reach as diverse a market as possible? Do you think that...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the next edition of D&D promote more equality?

I don't think the question flipped around is really applicable. A better question, in my opinion, is "If there are deliberate requests and fervor from the user base asking for more diverse characters, and they (WotC, Paizo, etc) just ignore the issue and pretend it was never raised to retain...

D&D 5E (2014) Just Get Rid of "Saving Throws"

If we're going to have "defense scores" I'd rather just have it be versus the ability score itself. No reason it couldn't work within a bounded accuracy system. It's simpler, and hey it actually makes having an odd numbered ability score somewhat useful!

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D podcast!

What's wrong with saying "no scream heals?" Do you want scream heals in next? [kidding] Or do you want more open mechanics and see this as backpedaling against your playstyle? This bit is basically all I've been advocating for: Where'd you get the idea they're working on an actual warlord? All...

the most recent Q&A speaks pretty directly to the warlord question. Are Warlord advocates happy with it? http://community.wizards.com/dndnext/blog/2013/03/14/dd_next_qa:_martial_healing,_fighter_utility,_and_ranger_challenges

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D podcast!

Fair enough. For myself, I'd like "supernatural" to be:1.) impossible within the natural order of the Real World, 2.) impossible without the use of Magic in the Game World. And I'd agree, there should be no magic involved in what the Warlord does. It's not as meaningless to some as to...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D podcast!

Actually, it gives you more or better opportunities due to supernatural, or as you put it "meta-physical," speed. Is Direct the Strike giving you more or better opportunities because of supernatural communication? I think you summed up yourself why some folks don't like magic or supernatural...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D podcast!

I'd say this is the most cogent analysis of 5e I've seen to sum it up so far [while readily allowing for disagreement I suppose]. For me this works GREAT, though I could swing a little less in PC favorable math and be happy. I mainly play 4e nowadays, but still have a nostalgia for the 2e I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Will there be such a game as D&D Next?

I'd be crazy if I said otherwise. These discussions are a pretty clear testament to that. I'd say they are putting a good bit of thought into things, they're just coming up with different conclusions than you'd like. Except for the removal of the sorcerer and warlock classes. In that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Will there be such a game as D&D Next?

Yep. It says that iconic elements with legacies stretching nearly 30 years they're going to go out of their way to keep distinct and with their classic names, and that good ideas with less than ten years of implementation in the game they're not necessarily going to throw away, but they might...

D&D 5E (2014) Legend Lore says 'story not rules' (3/4)

But I can't yell "hey look over there! At an ameoba and expect it to turn around. Why should a charismatic halfling who regularly does that to humanoids be able to suddenly think of something else to do for an ooze just as easily? I'm not one for extremes though, so Rather than take it to...

D&D 5E (2014) Legend Lore says 'story not rules' (3/4)

What's fun is a bit subjective from player to player, admittedly. As for your latter point, I would concede that my point* wasn't entirely thought out. The best rule (for a BASIC system like basic D&D next at least) should make narrative sense, but also be simple. Turn based combat works...

D&D 5E (2014) Legend Lore says 'story not rules' (3/4)

That's kind of my point. If I have a maneuver called "trip" then I know what it does, especially to a sentient humanoid with a clear form. People in the game world can't relate to how an ooze necessarily works. Even if they are some sage or expert that does understand it, an ooze's very...

D&D 5E (2014) Legend Lore says 'story not rules' (3/4)

It's clearly easier (or it should be in my opinion) to disadvantage a vertebrate humanoid than a formless puddle. How is, say, a "trip" maneuver that lets you disadvantage something by "tripping" it it applicable towards an ooze? Is "trip" too specific a word for a general purpose maneuver...
