Savage Worlds - Things for me to Remember

High toughness is not fun to play against. Give out Bennies often. Don’t use GM Bennie’s to Soak, use them on attack and damage. The system is rigged in favor of player success. Don’t fight it. +2/-2 or +4/-4 is really the only set of modifiers you need. Everyone gets to try and sluff Shaken...

Running games for pay as another income stream for TTRPG companies

I used to scoff at the idea of paying to play but as a permanent GM I think given the right game that I know I’d never get to play in otherwise I’d seriously consider it. I’ve just about talked myself into paying for a seat at an online WHFRP 4e game a number of time. If I had as sure the...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

GURPS Meta-Tech, a new release for building power based gear and giving it a monetary value. Should prove useful for Cyberpunk and Sci-Fi games where in GURPS, in game it makes sense to pay for gear with moneys, the system really works better with buying something like cyber gear with character...

How Serious Do You Like Your Gaming?

My current table is pretty beer and pretzels though I wish I had a more serious group. There are just some games that I can’t or won’t run with this group because they won’t buy into a more serious premise.

    AoS: Soulbound - thoughts?

I’ve read it and loaned my starter box out to another GM. Game is fun. Characters are superheroes. There are bolt on rules for non-superhero characters but they are not fully integrated into the core assumptions of the game. Combat is fun. I typically hate zones but they work here...

    Your Favorite Mini Companies?

I own a lot of Confrontation but they can be hard to find now. I actually very much like a lot of Games Workshops line but they can be cost prohibitive. I’d recommend looking at their Warcry line or one of other smaller games.

RPG Crowdfunding News - DC20, HOLLOWS, Voidrunner’s Codex, and more

I’m in on the Savage Pathfinder APG2. SWPF has become my go to for non-grim dark fantasy.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

As much as I struggled with PF2 I’m still tempted to keep banging my head against that wall in case it’s me. I gel on to my books and every time I’m in the FLGS I page through the remaster. My prep time constraints may change this fall. If there do I’ll be looking for something I can run out...

How do you keep your GM notes?

I continue to use OneNote. I installed a he pre-windows 10 mandatory version because I like it better. One feature in both versions is the ability to have to copies open at the same time. The ability to go back and forth between them is awesome. Fall of 2023 I ran Nights Black Agents in...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Cypher is what came to my mind too. Just about whole Cypher experience is player side. GM sets a difficulty of 1-10 and then multiplies by three. Players abilities do most of the rest. Leaves the GM free to handle intrusion and narrative stuff without managing the every detail. I’d miss...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

In my experience fast and loose aren’t possible with PF2. Despite my wishing otherwise.

D&D General Tangent from Vecna - How Many Actually Good Adventures Are There?

I would add Rise of the Runelords to this list. For my money Forge of Fury is the best dungeon crawl I’ve ever run. It’s a fantastic adventure. Not D&D but I ran the Zalozhniy Quartet for Nights Black Agents last year by the book and it was a great time.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

I’ve got the Dragonbane box set but have not had the chance to get into it. From what I’ve read review wise it’s getting a lot of love.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Been there. I get my D&D style-ish high fantasy fix with Savage Pathfinder these days. I’ve tried to run PF2 three times now. We’ve gotten through 1-5 or 6 all three times and it’s then I call it off. Just too tight for me. I still support Paizo when I can. I’ve purchased some APs recently...

Shrink your collection to the essentials. What makes the cut?

Missed one. Blades in the Dark would also have to be on the shelf. Stragglers would be IC RPG or Crown and Skull or both Numenera core slipcover

Shrink your collection to the essentials. What makes the cut?

If I had to go through this exercise, and it may come to that as we are thinking about downsizing, these are the no doubt I’m keeping them. Physical books: SWADE core + Companions PF1 core rulebook + Bestiary 1 GURPS Characters + Campaigns + Powers Earthdawn 1e core + Barsaive and Parlainth...
