    Spell List vs Ritual List

There's no reason a ritual will need to take a hour. I would guess that most are a one minute cast. After all, we've been told that spectral steed is a spell that won't be competing against fireball for space on your list of things you can cast, so I would assume that spectral steed is a ritual...

NEWS: OGL and SRD dates/info announced

Surely fan content (non profit, non published) would be just fine. I expect to see this sort of material on Gleemax the day 4E is released.

NEWS: OGL and SRD dates/info announced

WotC has stated very specifically that they aren't going to be 'stealing' folks material off Gleemax. They are simply protecting themselves from lawsuits. Somewhere buried among the 1000's of Gleemax blogs might be an idea similar to one they publish, and they don't need that person claiming...

NEWS: OGL and SRD dates/info announced

Because they are giving copies of the core books to the publishers. Apparently the SRD is a guideline on how to use the rules from the books, as opposed to a being an independant collection of rules seperate from the books.

D&D 4E WotC announces plans for 4e SRD and OGL

So... does that mean that WotC will have to ask Necro for permission to put the bard in a future splat released by WotC? I would hate to see WotC creating wonky mechanics for some of the basic classes just because it needed to be different from what a 3rd party has published. And even worse...

    Spell List vs Ritual List

While I assume that scrying will become a ritual... I wonder if 4E whill dump scrying all together. It is an iconic ability, but it causes all kinds of problems in game play. Classically in literature/movies, scrying is usually connected to a crystal ball or a magic mirror. Why not just limit...

Wizards still cast Enchantment, Illusions, Necromancy

I liked that approach as well, but I would hope 4E would go even further. Unique class abilities and widely varrying spell lists that will make for truely unique classes. I would really hate for, say, an Illusionist class to just feel like a wizard with quirks. Just as a Warlock doesn't have...

Wizards still cast Enchantment, Illusions, Necromancy

Color Spray, Blur, and Invisibility I fully expect to see for the wizard. But the various Image spells are unlikely. Perhaps we will see some of them as rituals, but I doubt we will get the whole line. Phantasmal Killer was of the old "save or die" variety that will be going away. Shadow Walk is...

D&D 4E A mystery Race in 4E FRCG (Rich Baker scoop)

Rich stated in an earlier post a few days ago that gnomes might or might not make the FR Player's Guide, but he wasn't sure.

    thank you, Richard Baker

Poor Rich... Scott Rouse became "The Rouse" and got his own reality TV show about D&D. Whereas Rich Baker became "no good" and "must be stopped". lol. At least he has a nickname and a catch phrase. I guess that means we care

    Spell List vs Ritual List

Based on the statements that we won't be forced to choose between attack spells and useful spells, I think it's fairly safe to say that knock will be a ritual. But... I'm not sure it's been stated anywhere that all rituals will be limited to out of combat abilities all the time. In theory, some...

    Spell List vs Ritual List

So, in some of the early 4E info, we were told that a wizard would not have to choose between Fireball and Phantom Steed. I can only assume that Fireball will be a spell, and Phantom Steed will be a ritual. So... what current spells (any class) do you think will make the jump to rituals?

Wizards still cast Enchantment, Illusions, Necromancy

Probably a more balanced way to approach this is similar to your approach to polymorph. Have a set list of abilities that the transmuter could create from slain foes. Then have a list of monster or allow DM judgement, to determine which creatures could grant those abilities. For instance, if...

Wizards still cast Enchantment, Illusions, Necromancy

Actually, considering all the talk of altering the terrain in 4E, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a Transmuter that focused on changing the landscape on a small scale, as well as polymorphing bodyparts (as opposed to changing into trolls or dragons). Something like making a gryphon from a...

D&D 4E Rich Baker on Gnomes in 4E

If they are in the MM and have rules presented to play them, I wouldn't call that marginal. After all, as much as I like Avariel, I doubt they will even be in the MM. They probably won't even appear in the FR stuff during 08 either. That's a marginal race.

Wizards still cast Enchantment, Illusions, Necromancy

Additional "wizard" classes Based on some of the suggestions in this thread, I've been kicking around in my head what the different arcane classes will be that represent pieces of the old wizard class. Enchanter & Illusionist: Bard I like this idea a lot. A sort of "Song Mage" if you will...
