D&D 5E (2014) How much 5e do you plan to get?

Something Else - Right now I probably won't even spend the time downloading the free Basic rules. Not because I dislike 5E, because we've got a good game of Pathfinder going. But there was a time when I thought I'd never play Pathfinder, so I can't utterly rule out 5E.

That's like asking me to rate something I like on a scale of 1-100 and then setting the top option as 11+ :D

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

In his particular society, yes. But then there are those people most would agree are evil who certainly thought they were good people. Being honorable within your own code is chaos, IMO, but is not being honorable in the greater sense of the term.

3 Fan Communities That Hate Their Own Members

IDK, I'm always having to ask my wife "Who's this guy again? I thought he was at the wall?" There's alot of characters and many look similar. They wouldn't be the first to joke about keeping track of who's who in GoT.

D&D 5E (2014) fighters and wizards both getting new toys?

Bad in what regard? Complete Book of Elves had a bunch of broken kits, both over- and under-powered. But the Complete Bard's Handbook was great. It started with a discussion of how the class was built and broke it down into four(?) key abilities. Then it presented a variety of flavorful takes...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

See, this is where I think howandwhy's "D&D is just code-breaking" comes from. The player deciding is *not* de facto immunity. I have chosen, as a player, for some very bad things to happen to my character, up to and including death. If it fit the mood and the story I spoke to the GM and asked...

    Ruined forever

Yeah, if they tried to get back to "business as usual" that wouldn't make sense. But the grim reality is that if your government came after you there isn't much you could do about it. After something like that though I'd expect a change in the form of government to something non-democratic...

D&D 5E (2014) Move Attack Move: Issues with The New Standard for Combat

Caveat: I'm going off of Mike's "feature, not a bug" statement. A mass of duergar doesn't need to "flawlessly swing" their axe. The mob tactics mean they are pressing in and swinging away. Think of scenes of a mass of zombies attacking in a tight hallway. This isn't Duelling Duergar lining up...

D&D 5E (2014) Move Attack Move: Issues with The New Standard for Combat

A mob of duergar in a 5-foot-wide hallway? Not impossible. A mob of 5'x5'x5' gelatinous cubes certainly. And under the previous 2 editions rules if you made this a mob instead of individual duergar they most certainly would be able to do just what you deem 'physically impossible.' Like I said, I...

D&D 5E (2014) Move Attack Move: Issues with The New Standard for Combat

Not that I agree with the way they've designed this, but it wouldn't be a "dancing line" necessarily. It could be to model that a mob of duergar can move in en masse to attack the fighter, while he only effectively gets to swing at one as the mob backs off. It only seems like a "dancing line"...

    Ruined forever

There have been a few over the years, but apparently not memorable (one is going to drive me nuts trying to remember what it is!). The most recent example is Mr. Peabody and Sherman. That was always a great short during Rocky and Bullwinkle, but this new movie ruined the animation, turned Mr...

Pathfinder 1E Mythic Pathfinder = how to break a game

Direct damage for wizards is not their best option. I'm sure they have just as epic of ways to bypass hit points as your fighter does in dishing out damage.

D&D 5E (2014) Move Attack Move: Issues with The New Standard for Combat

You could always borrow Star Fleet Battles' Impulse Chart if you want to model simultaneous movement. You'd have to hash out some rules since people don't move like starships of course.

Pathfinder 1E Prepping for tactical combat in Sandpoint

After a D&D hiatus for RL issues and a fun Chicago Gameday, we were back to the action. We went with carrying over any unspent movement to future rounds, which worked out well. And we only used the zoomed-in 5-foot scale when opposing forces shared a 25-foot square. With some placement...

Merric's Erratically Updated Reviews of old D&D adventures

I'm a bit surprised. My group really enjoyed these two adventures. They seemed very fitting for low-level play. Although we were huge fans of the FF (mostly), and even redundant creatures like the xvarts were welcome additions.
