Module WG11: Puppets -- Your experiences?

I think whimsical can be serious. Departing far afield from orcs, dragons, and dungeons puts it square in the whimsical category for me. Otherwise, I agree that it is well-designed and hangs together quite well.

Module WG11: Puppets -- Your experiences?

After WG9: Gargoyle burnt me by being not as terrible as Puppets, but pretty close, I started to make sure I read each WG module before wasting more money. WG10: Child's Play showed me within its cover art that the trend into stupid silly WoG modules that started in Gargoyle wasn't ending. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 3/17 /14

Nope. It would only be a converstion if two factors are true. First, not using "FAW". Second, the DM must perceive the issue as a "hassle." My games fit the first criteria. The second criteria is not true for me (and it seems other posters in this thread). I don't really care if you get...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 3/17 /14

I disagree. Setting guides are not going to be seen by everyone. The MM is a chance to highlight the diversity of D&D worlds by presenting multiple settings. It helps encourage readers to seek out the more expanded setting material, while also keeping the MM from becoming a dry encyclopedic...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 3/17 /14

...they shouldn't be reading because it is not a player reference manual. Stoopid noob! They should only reference the book if the DM determines their character would have access to that information. And if the DM knows he changed the creature, he won't send them to the MM to reference it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

Like I said, my game will follow where the support is. If I like the look of the final product over PF and Paizo, or any company for that matter, matches the support of Paizo's APs ofr 5E, then I'm onboard. But for now I'm a "No." Not a dissatisfied "No" but a "No" nonetheless. And if anyone...

D&D 5E (2014) how many 5e supporters are upset about the possible $50 price tag

It is true. But it really didn't matter in the AD&D environment. There were many examples of NPC-only classes that were substantially different than PC classes. And not like 3E NPC classes. These NPC classes were created specifically to present a higher challenge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

No, maybe later. My requirement for a weekly game is strong adventure support. The best support for my group is Paizo's adventure paths. Converting them was becoming a hassle, so we switched to Pathfinder. My game will follow whichever edition gives the most support. Heck, if adventure support...

D&D 5E (2014) The Illusion of Experience Points that Everyone Disbelieves

Completely disagree. Although the computer is not making those decisions, the programmer certainly did when he wrote the code. I think all of us would love to hear an actual example of a culture wihtout storytelling. Others have asked you this before, and you always avoid the question. This...

D&D 5E (2014) The Illusion of Experience Points that Everyone Disbelieves

But there is in an RPG. The default for D&D has been that "two or more people trying to tell different, conflicting stories" is decided by the DM. He can allow Player A's version to add to the story, Player B's, or scrap both versions and insert his own. You keep asking people to expand their...

D&D 5E (2014) The Illusion of Experience Points that Everyone Disbelieves

Here you go with absolutisms again. It's like you don't even want people to meaningfully discuss this with you. By this limited definition you posit no RPG is a game then. Because every one I've played has an open-ended game state. There is no finite number of moves in real life, just as there...

Pathfinder 1E Prepping for tactical combat in Sandpoint

Some of this will depend on the plans the party makes. They'll know the assault is coming and have plenty of time to prep. If they realistically want to be able to move across town they'll need something that ups their speed, like Fly. Or they'll be using the Run action much more than usual...

Pathfinder 1E Prepping for tactical combat in Sandpoint

I was thinking of simplifying when zooming into 5-foot squares and just use a blank 5x5. Obstacles, buildings, etc. would be dealt with at the higher scale. The exact positioning when zooming in is abstract anyway, the only real reason to zoom in to 5-foot squares is to allow grid-dependant...

Pathfinder 1E Should I kill off players who don't show?

And if recruiting new players is an issue, you could have your reliable players create "sidekick" secondary characters that see action when the less reliable players don't show up.

Pathfinder 1E Prepping for tactical combat in Sandpoint

With a large-scale attack on Sandpoint looming, and a group that enjoys the tactical grid, I found myself contemplating how to best make it work. The maps I created cover most of Sandpoint in a 25' per square scale. I'm still working out details of how to deal with the scale. I have...

Is the Internet a hive of scum and villainy?

I think some of it comes from what would be considered joking ribbing with friends. It's easy to get caught up in a community like ENWorld and forget that 1) most of the other posters aren't your friends; and 2) the body language and tone you use to joke with friends is lost on the internet. Add...
