    Haste, should it age you?

I have, and it was not intellectually unrewarding (or in XP/GP either :D). If anything, there is a risk that the highly advanced character gets bored. A player whose character is nearly or always hasted can actually get bored, doing everything while it seems like the other party members are...

    Haste, should it age you?

But putting it in the wrong FAQ? Not making an official change? I don't mind the change, but you have to do it right. Sloppy is not worth the effort. None of these documents are 'graphic' or 'enjoyable to read'. That is not their purpose. What you are describing is a lead screwdriver with...

    Haste, should it age you?

But in a game where each character gets one action, you cannot dominate the screentime except with a high level spellcaster. Roleplayingtips.com had a couple articles on unequal groups that were really good. This is roleplaying, not a CRPG. Player balance is less important than story, unless...

    The perfect weapon(s)?

But holy is far less useful in a morally neutral adventure or campaign. Not having any details about the campaign, anything that causes general damage or a special effect (e.g. wounding) would be best, then energy damage second (sonic, acid, electricity, cold, then fire if you have to pick...

Arcane Spellcaster with an Animated Shield

An animated shield protects you as if you were wielding it. That does not count as wielding it. -Fletch!

    Magic of Faerun Item question

How 2E... It's a shame that clerics can be nothing other than healing machines or uber archers. Nothin in the MoF errata at WotC. It would have been silly, anyway, for a 'standard' campaign setting to start this type of thing. It's OK for house rules, but is not where the game is going...

    Barbarian/monk?

Many people axe the alignment requirements on many core classes. But that is really a campaign decision. I agree, it is a good idea - the story should trump the rules on occasion. Perhaps some mitigating factor like the DM chooses you next feat by what he thinks is appropriate for this...

    When does multiclassing become excessive?

Focus? :) That is the beauty of the multiclass system. I have seen some arguments that the ranger and paladin classes are superfluous in 3E. Rogue/fighter and cleric/fighter could get pretty darn close. Throw in a couple feats to round out the mix, and that is all you need, even to axe the...

Need Help with Cost of Magic Ring

There is no hard & fast rule, but there is a strong implication that +10 is the non-epic limit. Anything with a Jump effect, of course, is the notable exception. I think the epic limit is +20. The DMG errata did change it to +100% on subsequent, added effects (i.e. double the cost). The "by...

    Balancing 13th level combats

We had three characters, 1st-18th level, and they were originally made 'in a vacuum'; we did not know what everybody else was making. So, no arcane spellcaster, but we did have a cleric. It was a very fun game, and we did not have many of the issues I read about on these boards. Is that...

    Balancing 13th level combats

3E works best with monsters as opponents for this very reason. The most dangerous threat to an adventuring party is other characters. Even with NPC-value equipment, a party of adventurers can still duplicate most of the party's abilites, though without their long-term survivability. So yes...

    Haste, should it age you?

Why it was in the Main FAQ instead of the FAQ for the appropriate supplement, I don't know. Why it is not in the official errata instead of the quasi-official FAQ is another question. It is a good mod, though - it follows the same process that can be used to calculate most of the other armor...

    Haste, should it age you?

It's only a smackdown if there is no story or background behind it. The more 'odd' the combination, the more work the character should do in game to achieve it. This is player responsibility, though, not a strict game mechanic, and doesn't seem to fit into many people's 'entertainment'. Their...

    Haste, should it age you?

Oh, here we are with the egalitarian "everybody is equal" thing. I'm sorry, but I have met a few people who were markedly more intelligent, stronger AND charismaric than I. Then again, I have met many that should not even ... I'll leave it at that that. The whole "All men are created equal"...

    When does multiclassing become excessive?

Yeah. If you view levels in the Gygaxian manner, multiclassing is bad, very bad. No archetype. If you consider that 3E might be a drift toward a more skill-based (and I use the term skill very loosely here :)) system, then individual character levels are just ingredients. d20 Modern backs up...

    When does multiclassing become excessive?

I did Fighter 6/Diviner 1/Arcane Archer 10/Deepwood Sniper 2/Order of the Bow Initiate 2. No XP penalties, slightly powergamed, but with background and in-game character development to back it up. I don't think I'll ever do something like this again, though. -Fletch!

    The perfect weapon(s)?

In general, only the enhancement bonus is restricted by caster level, not the total effective bonus. As long as a caster has the prerequisites necessary and enough XP to burn, he can run a weapon all the way to +10 effective, and armor to +10 effective. Not familiar with this PrC, though...
